Almadine
System: i5 7600k, gtx 1070, 8 gigs of RAM I'm experiencing disgusting fps drops and stutters in a not so heavily modded skyrim and I have no idea why. I only have 4 main mods enabled at the moment: Project ENB( realistic preset), Vivid landscapes, Static mesh improvement mod (SMIM), and enhanced vanilla trees. Other than that I only have a couple npc skin texture mods enabled, which are irrelevant. With all of these mods activated I get around 3 to 15 fps outdoors. I've tried uninstalling enhanced vanilla trees and vivid landscapes, which boosts my fps to around 45 to 60+ outdoors. BUT... Whenever I enter a building ( exe: riverwood trader), walk around for a bit, and then exit the building, my fps always tanks. With all 4 main mods installed it drops to around 2 or 3 fps! With just project ENB and SMIM it drops momentarily to around 25 fps and then goes back up to 45 to 60+. I'm extremely disappointed to say the least because I thought for sure my system should easily be able to handle multiple texture mods and a decent ENB. There must be something other than my system that's causing this issue right? I bought skyrim for pc specifically so I could mod the hell out of it and make it look purty, yet I can't even run 4 graphic improving mods with more than 3 fps. WTF is going on? I've given up on playing skyrim until I can get this issue resolved. Could it be a simple case of INI tweaks? Idk someone please help, I really want to enjoy skyrim in all its modded glory. Deleted3082751User
something is definitely wrong here. since you are not using mods that require skse i would suggest to go on special edition of skyrim without a doubt, it should perform far better especially with high end hardware, its both 64bit and dx11, meaning its potential performance and stability is far greater then oldrim and will have no issues with any amount of memory, which is oldrim main issue. Special Edition should grant a consistent 60fps+ especially since mods just work so much better on special edition. if special edition is out of the question: are you on windows 10 by any chance, and have all the updates including the recent dx9 memory fix, which was added in the latest creators update for windows 10. it could be that you may not have the dx9 fix, which would explain the poor performance. however even so, hitting 5 fps is very bad and would not be caused by memory alone, possible hardware issues right here. Heres a few mods that is absolutely mandatory for oldrim (performance and stability): Crash Fixes = https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72725/? Bug Fixes = https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/76747/? and make sure enb is setup correctly Your system could easily handle a hardcore modded skyrim setup (the GPU and CPU at least), we are talking 255+ mods, 4k texture overhauls, and the most demanding of enb without fail, so their is definitely something wrong with your setup. i know this for a fact as we have similiar GPU and CPU. and both my skyrim (oldrim, since i use many mods that require skse) and fallout 4 are heavily modded, with absolutely loads of ultra hd textures, armors, weapons, and landscape overhaul. mods always at max (255) and all enb i use are are always the maximum preset offered (with only DOF disabled since i very much dislike this effect, but even so i could run it easily) i get a consistent 115 fps unlocked, and 60 fps locked. the only issues i get is ctd, due to incorrect load order, which i am in the process of fixing manually, since loot is no good for fallout 4. i will also point out that fallout 4 is far more stable then oldrim (both performance wise and stability wise), and is also far more resource intensive then oldrim, proving that both dx11 and 64bit is far superior to dx9 and 32bit. and since special edition is made on the same engine as fallout 4 and has the same dx11 and 64bit standards, by default special edition will be far more stable and better performance. yes it will have its own issues, after all it is still a bethesda game, and as such issues are to be expected, just like fallout 4 has its own issues, but its a damn better start at modding the game with higher end hardware. so now we need to make sure this is not a bad system setup: 1. what PSU do you have including Wattage (Power Supply Unit) 2: Ensure your System is Set To High Performance Mode, as to eliminate throttling, also do the same in Nvidia Control Panel for Your GPU 3: 8 gig of ram is not enough for todays standards, i would highly recommend doubling it to 16 gig, this is not so much of an issue now, but eventually you will most likely want to start heavily modding skyrim with ultra hd texture (since your hardware definitely allows it), and this is when you will start seeing the limitations of 8 gig of ram, it can be hit very quickly especially on a resource hog that is windows 10 (if applicable). windows 7 is constantly using at least 4 gig of memory, depending on system setup, windows 10 can easily exceed this simply because by default it comes with a lot of crapware and has many more services enabled then windows 7 thus will use more memory. Dx11 applications should be the standard for windows 10 (that is skyrim special edition and fallout 4) and as such you should be running special edition of skyrim on windows 10, as windows 10 does not like dx9 games, for example borderlands 2 runs like crap on windows 10, yet runs perfectly on windows 7, as an example, if you are adament on running oldrim, then i highly suggest upgrading to windows 7. (yes upgrading from windows 10 to windows 7) your hardware will run on windows 7, contrary to microsoft unsupported hardware error. you can still get all windows updates, you will have to do a tiny bit of work to get windows updates for your i5 7600k. if all you do is use dx9 and dx11 applications, then their is absolutely no need for windows 10, windows 7 runs both applications perfectly.
