Help a first-time modder enjoy a whole new kind of skyrim

Recommended Posts

First time modder yes, idiot no.

I've got Nexus Mod Manager installed and handling the game correctly. SKSE is installed and Nexus Mod Manager successfully runs the game using it. LOOT is installed and ensuring me that my load order is optimized. My standard DLC and unofficial patches, installed via NMM, work as intended.

Now for the problems:
Cosmetic mods like Realistic Blood, Realistic Water, and Realistic Ragdoll install correctly, and the game runs correctly when their plugin checkboxes are checked, except the mods themselves do not function. Blood disappears completely, water particles are replaced with a red "<!>" icon, and there's no ragdoll physics at all.

Overhaul mods like Immersive Armors, Ordinator Perks, or Wildcat Combat install correctly, but the game fails to launch when any plugins are checked. The command prompt opens for a split second, but then quickly closes without any error message.

Thank you for your time if you've read this far, I typically try to avoid the forums because I feel like asking for help is somewhat lazy, but I also recognize when I'm out of options and actually need some help. I spent a few hours searching for similar problems before starting this thread, to no avail. If you've got any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect it only LOOKS like they installed correctly, when, in reality, they did not. May wanna post up in the NMM section. I don't think they are officially supporting it anymore, but, there are still some folks that will help. (just not many of the devs any more.)

Thanks for the reply.

Is there any way for me to be able to tell if it installed correctly? For the most part it appears that NMM did exactly the same thing as a manual install, moving the unique .esm and .bsa files to the data folder. It's just that enabling any mod that changes non-cosmetic functions will prevent the game from working at all, and cosmetic mods are just buggy.

My brother has brought to my attention that Skyrim Legendary Edition =/= Skyrim Special Edition.

I had no knowledge of an HD re-release of skyrim, and now understand that my mods are not working for that very reason. My choices to make them work are either to buy the game again, or pick different (older) mods.

Thank you all for your time.

Edit: Luckily I was able to find the correct version for ALL of the mods that were giving me problems, and now I'm having the time of my life! I am an unkillable mage-tank, primarily utilizing restoration magic and shield skill. Thanks to Ordinator, I can deal damage with restoration spells like Leech Seed!
