Im confused with this topic...

That's a lengthy article and you don't say which bit confuses you. But it does state that editing the config files with Notepad++ will allow you to have multiple folder support for Steam and Skyrim, so that should allow using Steam to run the game with Steam and Skyrim in different folders.

You don't need to connect to Steam on-line to actually run Skyrim, you just need it to install the game, verify your licence and patch the game. You must have Steam installed on your hard drive, of course, but you never need to connect to it live again after installing and verifying Skyrim and your licence and patching the game.

I have UAC under Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and everything is set to require Administrator permission and to be run as Administrator. It causes no problems at all for games like Neverwinter - a pop-up window just asks me to allow it to run. I did get problems with TES games in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder and mods for Morrowind, but I think that was fixed by twiddling with UAC settings and marking every *.exe to be run as Administrator.

Skyrim is a single-player game, anyway, so you never need to play on-line. You can play on-line through Steam if you like, of course, if you want messages from friends while playing. But I always play off-line after setting Steam to Off-Line Mode. You don't even need to be connected to the internet to actually play the game once Steam is set to run in Off-Line mode. If you use SKSE for mods, you will not use the normal Skyrim Launcher, but the SKSE launcher.

If you buy any version of Skyrim on DVD, it will have a tiny amount of actual game data on it and the rest of the game will be installed from Steam once your licence is verified as genuine. The disk is really just an "access key" with your licence number. But I find that the disks are usually much cheaper from Amazon.co.uk than the electronic version from Steam.

After that, there are unlikely to be any further patches for SSE (or classic Skyrim once it is updated to patch 1.9, IIRC), so you don't need to ever play on-line or play through Steam in on-Line mode. Just launch Skyrim through the SKSE launcher. Otherwise, your mod order list will get screwed up.

I never use mod managers and install everything manually. As I recall, when I played Skyrim solidly every day for more than 3 years, it was installed on the SSD drive in

C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim

My mods were manually downloaded into E:\Skyrim Mods, unzipped in their own folder and manually installed. Except for those with special install and uninstall utilities built in, like the original UFO.

Sorry if this is a bit vague and rambling, but I'm not quite sure what the problem is.

:)
