Lisnpuppy
Hi! So the only DLC mod that I really like was the Razor. I have not played it since I got this new machine and stopped Oblivioning on the Xbox. I got it the other day...then realized that I cant make it work...probably because of Vista. I dont understand what they are telling me on the site. So can anyone tell me in small, simple sentences how to make it work? I mean like1) turn on computer2) click, click here... Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help me! Lis :bunny:
bben46
Vista has a cute little feature designed to protect you from yourself. It is called UAC and if it is on, it seems to prevent many mods from being able to install properly. To get rid of it, look here: Note: Vista users may have to disable a security function known as UAC. If you have downloaded and installed, and the mod is appearing in your Data Files List, but not in your game check to see if UAC is turned on. If so. Look here for instructions on how to turn it off. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/ I don't have Vista, so that is as untechnical as I can get on this. I DL it but it has this self installer and when I clicky it wont even install it. I thought I disabled that to run my mods and such but I will check again. I hate the Vista. Sharkull
Have you tried Right-click -- Run as administrator...? Also note the comments pertaining to Vista on this page (it doesn't sound good):http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Official_Mods

russader
This is why I did things a little differently than most people to get the mods to work with 64 bit vista. Step 1: Building the system. I bought three hard drives, not one or two but 3. Two of them are in a Raid 0 configuration, but the OS is not installed on them. The third is partitioned into two partitions. I installed XP PRO first on the C: drive. Then I installed VISTA 64 on the E: drive. It will still show up as C: when vista boots but it's actually E: I installed Oblivion GOTY edition on XP on the other two raided drives. I removed the UAC then installed Oblivion the VISTA. Then I installed the DLCs, "ALL of them" on the xp side.Installed the MODS while in XP, manually, not OBMM. Booted back into VISTA 64. Checkmarked all of the mods to on. Ran the "Oh poo I forgot the name, it's the script extender V 14. something. It allow you to fly as a demon." And whalla! I ran OBLIVION, Heavily modded on VISTA 64 bit. The reason for the three drives is that games are what you want the speed for but you don't want to risk loosing your system if a hd goes down or the raid F**s up. So I install my OS's on the stand alone and the games share the same folders on the raid. Just a thought for you guys that might help you in the future. TsukiDragon
What worked for me is when you install games (any game) DO NOT install in the Program Files directory. Create a new folder (I call mine GAMES) and install them there. I have had no further problems with mods.
myrmaad
None of that will work for Lisnpuppy at this point, unless she's got the means and money to rebuild her box with raid drives or at least a dual boot with XP.. and that might not resolve it because even though I downloaded and installed my DLC on my XP, when I copied the folders into my Vista, it still didn't work properly. That's when I called BethSoft Support. They were very nice but suggested my only recourse was to buy the DLC CD. Although I already had the Game of the Year Edition, making some of the content redundant, and I'd already downloaded others for a nominal fee from the website, I actually had already decided to get the DLC CD version and it was on its way. When it arrived, my troubles were over. It has NADA to do with Vista's file system. The problem is that the Downloadable Content installer is not compatible with the Vista version's security features. In other words, the entire problem is simply due to the installer software. And by the way, it's documented all over the place. UESP wiki, Beth's site, I saw it documented all over the place when I came here with my first post moaning about HORSE ARMOR. Any sharp memories remember that?
