Alternate Start's Bed Doesn't Do Anything

I didn't think to check the forums before I posted, so this is essentially a cross-post from Alternate Start's posts section to open it up to a wider audience. Below is a copy paste of the conversation so far in the hope that someone can enlighten me.

My best guess is that for some reason the bed isn't switching from disabled/active to enabled/disabled, which is why I can leave through the door when I choose that option. Something I didn't mention below is that the quest updates when I pick an option, which if we're looking at it in detail may be relevant.

I'm having a strange problem where I can't interact with/click on the bed in the starting room. I can leave through the door if I choose that option, but no matter what I've tried I can't get it to work. It;'s not a CTD, just a bed that gives me the prompt to interact but doesn't do anything when I do. I've never had this problem before, and I've only just switched to SE from LE and never heard of this problem before so I don't know if there's something basic I can do to fix it.

What I've tried:
•A few different Mara options (just in case)
•Checking control scheme, controller, m+kb, and other objects (everything else works fine, so it's just that bed)
•Going out into the world to see if anything else is broken (immedately outside of the prison at the fort nothing else seems out of the ordinary)
•Load order (First, last, and LOOT's order)
•Disabling all other mods, and before that trying with just USSEP and SMIM installed
•Un-cleaning the masters (Steam's verify files function)
•A fresh install of SE, including fresh INIs
•Reinstalling LAL
•SSEdit (I've found the bed. I'm not sure what to look for to see if there's any conflicts, but nothing stands out from my poking around)
•Disabling SKSE64

I can of course keep playing for now, and I'll report back if anything else is broken. Is there anything else I can try or provide to help with this?

If the bed does nothing at all, not even the fade out/fade back problem where you end up going nowhere, then the only other thing I could think of is you've got a bad mesh installed for the beds in the game and its collision can no longer be activated because of it. Which means you ought to be running into problems with that type of bed everywhere else in the game too.

I tested that by going to The Bannered Mare in Whiterun and The Sleeping Giant in Riverwood. TBM's bed was owned and when I clicked it I got the "You cannot sleep in an owned bed" message, and when I rented a room in TSG it let me sleep just fine.

Mod list in case you/anyone wants to take a look: https://pastebin.com/uu8zB18C (ignore the last 5, the list was copied between installing and running LOOT).

I have xEdit open right now and when I load every plugin I have and search for CommonBed01L (which is 0003B41E) it gives me a list of 108 references, including the two by Alternate Start. All just placements, but maybe that's the wrong list. I also applied a filter to show conflict losers and searched again for CommonBed01L, and got nothing. Am I looking in the right place?

I hope that someone out there can give me an answer to this problem, even if it's "You're such a moron, all you had to do was this".

Sometimes I've had it be very slow/delayed but eventually it loads for me.

I've also had the boat ride to Raven Rock get fudged due to Sounds of Skyrim's 99 000 pop ups making me able to steer the boat to hell and back(not fun). The boat isn't directly related to the bed but might make you able to attack the problem from a new direction perhaps, thinking since that time it was due to scripts clashing I think.

Everything is fine now.
I remembered Occam's Razor, and decided to go back through my checks. I started from absolute scratch, and realised that I'd been taking for granted what MO used to do that NMM doesn't, like actually install mods properly. So I reinstalled everything one by one, starting with Alternate Start and starting a new game every every 3-5 mods to check that it still worked. It does.
