bpkilla
Hello forums sorry for posting my first post like a noob, im fairly new to computers and have been trying to learn but this problem stumped me. I started using mod manager and added mods to skyrim but shortly after playing for awhile i decided I wasnt happy with some and deactivated them (gave me an error message i fixed by reactivating them). But now as soon as I press play and if I continue from a save it will crash at the loading screen. If I start a new file it will successfully load but will crash during the beginning in seconds. It frustrating as this was the game I was excited for after all the BS on the PS3 version. The fixes I have tried are the sound fix, I've removed any problematic mods and such. The version should be up to date being bought last weekend. I even deleted and reinstalled but nothing changed. It does save my saves are corrupt but then that means starting a new game should have worked if that was the problem. Do you guys have any ideas? I've been reading and watching so much info trying to fix this for about 3 days now and I'm frustrated.
neunen
what mods were you using before this started? did any of them use SKSE? what version of skyrim are you running? when you say you got rid of the error by reactivating them do you mean there are activated currently? was the error message the common "this save game relies on content that is no longer available" or was it some other error message? since it does crash when starting a new game it seems like it may be mod content that isn't playing nice, with either your system or your current version. bpkilla
what mods were you using before this started? did any of them use SKSE? a lot. 2k texture pack which i know isn't the problem cuz the dlc pack takes priority. Faster Horses, Midas Magic which i dont think worked. Cloaks, Two finishing moves. I tried to be a bit smart and look for quality lol. Oh and Sky UI worked great on there so I think that was fine. what version of skyrim are you running? Its from Steam and I'm hoping that since I deleted and reinstalled it yesterday that its up to date. I'm feeling like such a retard lol when you say you got rid of the error by reactivating them do you mean there are activated currently? yea like the default texture pack I unchecked and such cuz I thought it was conflicting with another mod. That changed when i deleted and reinstalled the game and dlc apparently. was the error message the common "this save game relies on content that is no longer available" or was it some other error message? You nailed it there but only on the continue option. I said it was corrupt when I tried to load a save in fact they all were. since it does crash when starting a new game it seems like it may be mod content that isn't playing nice, with either your system or your current version. Should I try deactivating all my mods and see if that works cuz thats the only thing left I can think of. I'm always trying to be up to date with this stuff so Ill check that real quick. EDIT: ok deavtivated everything in the nexus and the data files and its still having the problem on a new save. It's weird cuz i had a long playthrough and when i first installed it but I never played the vanilla version so idk why that wouldnt work if Ive hardly changed my system. neunen
do you start the game with the SKSE loader, and if so are you sure that's up to date?SkyUI requires it so you may already have it, but not the version compatible with the newest update. (?) anything else that might not be controlled by NMM, like Scriptdragon or the TES accelerator? Does it just crash to your desktop when you try to save on a new vanilla game? How many save game files do you have? if possible you could try cleaning out some of the old ones. You could also try a complete sweep. save your necessary saves to a backup folder somewhere, then delete the folder. delete the folder that has your ini settings (i think it's documents/my games/skyrim) then through steam delete the local content for skyrim. do into steamapps/skyrim and delete any remaining files then try reinstalling through steam from scratch, don't download anything additional, even the texture dlc. start a new game and see if you can save. if so start 1 by one to bring the mods you had back in. hopefully some of this will help

No it crashes before I can do anything. I get a brief view of the opening credits and like a second of gameplay. neunen
hmm that's very strange that a vanilla game won't let you save even from a new character. at that point it seems like it must be something with your system. are your video drivers up to date? or if you updated them recently maybe try rolling back a version? do you know what version of skyrim you were last running successfully? if you use system restore you could try rolling tesv.exe back to a previous version http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Rollback-Your-Skyrim-Steam-Version-to-Before-Patch-1-2-237801.shtml or it could possibly be a sound problem. you could try what this fellow did here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/115501-13-skyrim-crashing-loading-screen if that still doesn't work maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself can chime in (?) I just finished building this pc and BF3 works normally its just skyrim so idk if that would be but ill check if you use system restore you could try rolling tesv.exe back to a previous version this is next on my list. http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Rollback-Your-Skyrim-Steam-Version-to-Before-Patch-1-2-237801.shtml or it could possibly be a sound problem. you could try what this fellow did here yeah i've already tried that solution lol. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/115501-13-skyrim-crashing-loading-screen if that still doesn't work maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself can chime in (?) thanks a lot for the help its very kind sir : ) looks like that didn't work cuz Windows only has one previous version and that didn't work. I would contact Bethdesa but after the crap they pulled on the PS3 I'd say customer support is shotty at best sadly. Rynjin
I'm having this same problem. Downloaded the Deadly Dragons mod and BAM! can't load save or start a new game. Loading causes a crash to desktop, and new game just stops at the dragon icon on the main menu. The music keeps playing, but I have to force quit on the game because it will not do anything from that point. Edit: I unfairly accused Deadly Dragons. It seems it was in fact the Wizards or Winterhold mod that was f***ing things up. Edited March 22, 2012 by Rynjin
FruitDealer30
I have the same problem, I've tried everything I've reinstalled, done a clean sweep, done a sound fix, changed compatability, added uGridsToLoad=x ... all to no avail =( I was tempted to blame it on patch 1.5 but I did a system restore back to 1.4.21 and even then when I tried to load a save it would just CTD I really dont know what to do and there seems to be no real fix I have all my graphic drives up to date... I'm just praying that all this is not beacuse my saves are corrupted I'm wondering if there is a log I can post indicating why it is crashing? Please someone help me.
