StoneHobbit2
Hi quick question for those who would know regarding performances between the older gtx 970 and newer gtx 1050 ti for Skyrim se? Both have had a few videos on youtube and both look capable of good framerates. I can only play vanilla Skyrim at present so looking for a cheap upgrade. Any thoughts? Deleted3082751User
the gtx 970 should be compared to the 1070 not the 1050ti, according to specs the 970 should be far stronger then the 1050ti, as it has over double the cuda cores. cuda cores is what makes the performance for the most part. clock speeds don't really mean much in the grand scheme of things (when it comes to purchasing 2 different generations of hardware), it only becomes a factor when choosing a graphics card of the same generation, 970 for example so basically it boils down to this: Gtx 970 = over double the cuda cores (1,664 cuda cores), same memory size 1050ti = faster clock speeds so your buying factor should be between a 970 or gtx 1070, if this was the case the 1070 is far more powerful then the 970 and as such i would buy the 1070 without question. however a better comparison would be between a 970 and gtx 1060ti, and again i would go for the newer card, 1060ti in this case. with all that said if it has to be between the 970 and 1050ti, then i would go for the 970, as spec wise it is the far more powerful card. however with that said, all pascal cards will fully support dx12 and other newer frameworks, and as such could in fact perform far better then previous gen cards in the future. however since the question is targeted at a dx11 game, then 970 would be the choice regarding the options you have given. however other things to think of is, cooling solution, graphics card size, etc etc, pascal cards will have better cooling solutions, not only because of the new hardware but also because aftermarket always improve their cooling solutions. so a 1050ti will be much cooler then the 970. but with all that said the gtx 970 is much more powerful compared to the 1050ti, as such the 970 should be the card you go for. Easy your horses buddy, we need to clear up some things. A GTX 970 should never be compared against a GTX 1070. Just because they share the number 70 doesn't mean it's useful to compare them. A 1070 whips the floor with a 970 in every single way. Heck even a 1060 destroys a 970. Comparing a 970 to a 1050ti is a very valid argument. They more or less fall in line in terms of performance. A "Line-of-performance" would look something like this: 1050 / 960 < 770 < 1050TI < 780TI / 970 < 1060 (3GB) / 980 < 1060 (6GB) < 1070 < 1070TI < 1080 < 1080TI I share your opinion. If you would choose between a 1050TI and a 970 I would strongly recommend the 970. It has more raw horsepower and can easily be overclocked with an additional 150 - 200 MHz. But as always, it depends on you budget what you should get. ~ 150 cash (In this order)GTX 970 GTX 780TI GTX 1050TI~ 200 cashGTX 980 RX 470 PS: A 1060 TI doesn't even exist. Evangela
My laptop was top of the line some 1 1/2 years ago, now it's probably comparable to a Ford Model T, and runs Skyrim just fine. I think megabucks spent to the run game is not needed. But that's just me.
jones177
Hi A GTX 1050 ti is slower than a GTX 970. For this game I would not get either. I could not imagine playing Skyrim without ENB with decent frame rate & I was not able to do it with a GTX 970 at 1080 resolution. It took a GTX 980 for me to get the magic 60fps at 1080.A GTX 980 = GTX 1060. I would also not get the 3gb version of the GTX 1060. My game has been using about 3.5gbs vram since 2013. It runs slower & less stable with less than 4gbs vram. If I had to choose between the 1050 ti & 970 I would go with the 970. I owned one & I did not like it. The 970 micro stuttered with this game. It did run my game in the 40s & was playable. My game is impossible to play in the 30s because of script lag. To use a 1050 ti I would have to drop ENB features or remove some script heavy mods. The 970 is the lesser of two evils. Later
