playing New Vegas from scratch with all DLC

Hi guys, long time user of the Nexus first time poster (aside from requesting a mod one time).

I have a question about the best way to approach the DLC content in New Vegas.

lemme explain. you can read this to get an idea of where I'm coming from or skip down to the main question. I did a couple playthroughs of New Vegas when it was first released and then didn't touch it for awhile. I knew there was DLC coming but I didn't want to play again until all the DLC was released, like waiting for a Fallout New Vegas GOTY edition with all the DLC in one place.

since this GOTY version has not yet been officially released, I recently went ahead and bought myself the individual copies of Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, and Gun Runners Arsenal.

now that I've got them all I went ahead and scrapped my original savegames. I uninstalled FONV and did a fresh install with each of the DLC back-to-back in order to have all of them enabled from the very beginning of the game. and then I went ahead and started from scratch with a new character.

as of right now I've just reached the Strip, shot Benny in his ugly face up in the presidential suite, and walked back outside to receive the Mark of Caesar.

so basically I'm right at the halfway point where I gotta' start deciding how I'm going to work toward the Endgame quest.

MAIN QUESTION: but before I go any further I want to know what's the best way to approach the DLC?

with the exception of Gun Runners which is just new weapons, what order should I play the different DLC quests in?

if I wanted to play my character in "canon" so to speak, what's the most realistic route?

should I finish the main quest line first? battle of Hoover Dam, etc, and then do the DLC?

or should I do some of the DLC before finishing the main quest line?

I'm aware, for instance, that one of the DLC will end with me sending a nuclear warhead into the heart of the Legion or NCR camps.

this would seem to contradict or at least heavily affect the Endgame quest chains. for the sake of canon and lore, is this something you would do before or after the battle at Hoover Dam?

and I know that one of the DLC will involve working with the excommunicated co-founder of the Legion; Burned Man.

but this would also appear to throw a wrench in any potential Legion fame/infamy that I might want to pursue.

so you see what I'm getting at?

I'm trying to find a "route" or "plan" to go through the DLC that makes the most sense in terms of progress through the overall story.

thanks in advance to anyone who can provide some good feedback!

Play them in order of release... Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues and then Lonesome Road. As for when to play them it's up to you, the game will inform you of the suggested level before you enter the DLC area so I wouldn't worry about that

so... the events that occur within the DLC have no bearing on the main NV world and quests?

like I could nuke the NCR/Legion before the battle at Hoover Dam and still side with either faction?

I just want to be clear on that point because those are the repercussions I'm most worried about.

If you nuke someone then then your reputation in the main game will suffer, other than that there's not really much crossover between the DLC and the main game. There is a theme that runs through the DLC, I wont say any more than that.

ok cool.

thanks for no spoiling this "theme" you speak of.

that would be news to me. I didn't know the DLC was connected in any way so that should be pretty interesting to see play out.

basically you're saying that I can do the DLC at any time before or after the main storyline as long as I do them in the order they were released.

sounds good.
