Some questions about the Fallout Lore that I dont get

I got so tired of the dreary NV look. It was depressing. Graphics packs for NV consisted of higher resolution rust. That is why Skyrim was such a pleasant relief when fully modded. They have some extraordinary graphics modders creating stuff for that game.

The new look of Fallout 4 was pretty dreary too, but with tree and grass mods, as well as ReShades and ENBs that depressing quality can be minimized. There are also mods that create a both grim and washed out looks for those players who like that look. I like sharp and colorful. Something with a degree of beauty, even if it is a ruined beauty.

I really prefer it with some life to it too. I think the biggest mistake was to set Fallout 4 during the fall. I know they were going for that dreary, depressing vibe but a green, leafy wasteland is much more fun to explore (or one in full fall colors for that matter) and the ruins of the city gets a much starker contrast when compared to the overgrown wilds that surrounds it. Either way those are just my thoughts on the matter, I know everyone have different tastes but to me the vanilla commonwealth is just visually unappealing. (At least New Vegas had an excuse... that landscape isn't very green even when hasn't been nuked to hell....)

The Commonwealth really lacks a consistent unifying theme to make it interesting.

Fallout 3 went full post-nuclear. New Vegas had the desert.

It really becomes clear in Fallout 4, too like when you compare Far Harbor to the vanilla Commonwealth - Acadia is dripping with atmosphere. The Commonwealth has clear, blue skies and... leaves. It could be just any other crisp, New England, Fall day.

I think winter overhaul mods make the commonwealth look the best, maybe because the weather and sunlight is meant to look like fall/winter.
