Scrabbulor
You can now get 3DS Max 2012 for free, legally you bloody pirates! Don't laugh, I see you @_@ Register for a 3 year Student License here http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?siteID=123112&id=17355061
Matth85
3ds max was always free, for students. If you are not a student, it is not free.If you get it as a student, while you are not, you are just as good as the one pirating it. That said, even though downloading it is "Illegal", it is actually nothing negative about it. Autodesk does not lose any customers, or any profit, if you pirate it: Because the thing is too expensive for anything but 3d proffesionals to buy. Just to clarify how it works. mamastoast
What Matth85 said. Autodesk knows very well that only businesses buy the full versions of their products, and that is what they rely on. I personally have a permanent 2011 student licence to both Max and Maya, which im more than happy with.

WorldShaperDragon
Unemployed and educators also are eligible for free licenses (and you can renew the license after 3 years if you are still eligible, though they'd likely have newer versions out by then anyways...)
