hoofhearted4
the reference models are out now. and while its a good card, its nearly identical in performance to the 7970. only slightly better then the 580. it is however, quieter and uses less power then both. bu other then that, it didnt blow either out of the water. im still waiting for one of the lower end cards like the 660 or something. even if it doesnt out perform a 560ti ill take the less power and heat and sound. but ya. go out he, look for reviews. ive see a couple now. as ui said. virtually identical to the 7970. RitualBlack
It would be silly to buy a identical (660 vs 560ti) card just because it uses less energy and runs quieter. The gtx 680 had pretty good benchmarks but it that much better than what AMD has out now, and neither of them are a massive jump from last years highest end models. If I were to build a desktop I would either wait until the 6gb 6990 goes on sale or wait until the AMD 8xxx series is out for a while when the 28nm architecture should become much more powerful. Just my opinion though  .
hoofhearted4
i should note, that i wouldnt be replacing a 560 i already have. i need to buy a GPU when i build a PC. i dont have one right now. so no, it wouldnt be silly to buy a 660 over a 560. only if i already had one, or just bought a 560 would it be silly to upgrade, but i wouldnt be upgrading, i would be purchasing for the first time. the bench marks are barely higher then the 7970, and in games themselves, its almost identical (at stock) for FPS and such. however, commenters are saying, that the drivers for the 680 arent allowing it to use its full potential. so i guess we will see in the coming months. Thor.
YAy the latest model is slower then my overclocked 7950, on fans. I bet it runs hot to like the 470 models, knowing it uses a gtx460 chip, wich is med range. I know i used to own 2 470's. Edited March 22, 2012 by Thor. I know i used to own 2 470's. guessing you didnt actually look at reviews? its on par with the 7970 (beating it in pure benchmarks, but identical in games)...it also runs just as cool and MUCH MUCH quieter. they are practically the same card, except the GTX uses less power and is quieter (but a lot on some accounts, but thats mostly opinion i believe) neither card is better then the other. with the 7970 and the 680, at this point in time, fanboyism stops because neither one is better. dont try to convince yourself you made the smartest choice, by bashing the other card, because buying either card results in almost the exact same result. Thor.
I Doubt in runs as cool as my Gigabyte radeon 7950, i mean i barely hear it at all, and it runs really cool on load. The cooling does matter, I'm no fan boy, i use what works for my needs, Nothing else. All i do is look at the specs. and then compare them. Question what is the wattage of the thing anyways, the gtx 580's and 90's use 600watts of power. But i couldn't justify that with my 1000Watt psu. I wanted head room. Edited March 22, 2012 by Thor.

Thor.
the 7950 has more Processor cores then the gtx 680?? http://www.tigerdire...0806&CatId=7387 and the 7950?? http://www.tigerdire...7008&CatId=7387 Hmm i wonder why?? Although if i didn't get the 7950 i would have bought a 680. It always happens with me, as soon as i buy new vid card a new one always comes out :teehee: WHHHHHYYYY!!! Also watching that vid man, it runs warm, 75c on load is hot, nearly as hot a single gtx470's without sli. I'm getting 56c on load with one 7950.. With fans turned down low.Vid card stock fan speed. thanks to the 3 2 and a half inch fans Edited March 22, 2012 by Thor.
ChuckFinly
My question is why Nvidia put a 256-bit bus on the 680 (or at least the ones that are out as of 3/22/12). Can anyone say "bandwidth bottleneck"? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Edited March 22, 2012 by ChuckFinly
Thor.
Yes even the gtx470's have a bus speed of 320bit, that can be a bottleneck  Edited March 23, 2012 by Thor.
