Mouse Wheel Problems

Posted this problem up at the official bethesda forums, but didn't get much luck. So here's hoping that the nexus fallout community might be able to help me instead.

My problem is that I run fallout 3 on my laptop (runs flawlessly, no problems performance wise), but what my problem really comes down to is the third person camera, since I have to use a touchpad, trying to use the mouse wheel gestures don't work, as was the same for when I played Skyrim. Atleast for Skyrim I found a autohotkey mod that allowed me to assign the PgUp and PgDn buttons for zooming in and out of the third person view and also for zooming the world map, which was a god send.

I have looked everywhere and tried mouse emulators, but they have failed me. I'm not particularly wanting to buy a mouse just for one game, as I prefer using my touchpad for gaming as I've become accustomed to it.

It just breaks immersion for me if I can't decide the zoom distance thats comfortable to play with, and just wondering if through the FOSE or a mod or any external programs that maybe you've used personally has worked?

I've also tried the normal, goto into options, devices then reassigned the camera to another key but that just does the same as holding down f for the vanity camera and not changing the distance.

Thanks for any help that you can give :)

Fellow laptop user here, and i feel your pain. It was worse in Oblivion, if you used two fingers to try to zoom or scroll it messed the inventory menu up so that you had to exit and restart.

My best advice; buy a dirt cheap mouse. I emphasise cheap. I have a nice $40-50 Rocketfish, but the scroll wheel isn't recognized by any Bethesda games. I bought a $12 Logitech, and it works perfectly.

Edit- Another option - Borrow a mouse for one session. Use the scroll wheel to set your view distance, and save the game. That's all you need it for. When you load that save, the view will be the same as when you made the save.

Hmmm, you have a good point about borrowing a mouse, never actually thought about that  And i'll look into getting a cheap mouse, seems theres quite a few on amazon/play.com :)

Been looking into FOSE scripting or making a mouse emulator myself for directx games if all else fails :pinch: Thanks for the input :)
