Toutatis
Well I am late to the party as I just got Fallout 4 last week...and now I can't refrain from modding it and tweak it to my taste (and for fun). I've modded TES games since Morrowind and Fo3 in the now semi-distant past so it's just a matter of refreshing/updating my knowledge. I was reading this blender tutorial and came across this note: "Blender 2.7x:Important: If you want to use a newer version of Blender, don't use version 2.76b, as the copy weights between meshes doesn't work properly. Install version 2.75 instead. Then you should install the Blender Nif Plugin 2.6.0a0.dev4. Take into account that this is not a official release but that it is still under development."The latest version of Blender is now 2.79 and I was wondering if it was still and issue or if there are other reasons to use another version. What about the latest experimental build? Thanks
deadbeeftffn
I'm using Blender 2.79 with 2.6.0a0.dev4. From what i can say, the plugin does not spit out FO4 compatible NIFs and right now i haven't found a way to convert them. Also, it is not possible to import an already existing FO4-NIF. Maybe i'm doing it wrong :-) So, anyway, you may give it a try.
cypher2012
I've been working nifscope devs. A version has been released on discord that enables you to import obj for the mesh and for collision. You're able to create a night file that can be run through Elric to produce a fallout 4 file. I'll post an update thread when it's been nailed :)
jkruse05
Export from your chosen version of Blender (I still use 2.49) as an .obj, run the .obj through Outfit Studio to get a .nif, then plug the BSSubIndexTriShape from that one into an existing, similar .nif with Nifskope, and clean it up. Make sure you convert it to a BSTriShape and rename it. This is what I have done for all the meshes in my mods.
Pelgar
I'm using Blender 2.77 without the nif plugin, tried it but could never get anything usable with it. My workflow is about the same as Jkruse, if I'm modifying an existing nif I load it into Outfit Studio, export as obj, import into Blender. I don't use a skeleton in Blender, just work the mesh over then export as obj. Then back into Outfit Studio, copy weights from the original nif or some vanilla nif if closer match. Export from OS as nif, load into NifSkope, remove bogus nodes and bogus strings. If I'm doing a skirt or dress I'll copy the Cloth data from a similar vanilla nif. If I'm doing a go nif I'll copy the collision from a similar vanilla nif. I sometime convert BSSubindexTriShape to BSTriShape sometimes not, it seems to work either way. Toutatis
Thanks, I'll start experimenting and see how I fare...(and I think I still have a Blender 2.49 installed on an old PC back at home). Goodbye real life...
