Ok, this might seem like a noobish question, but here's the deal. I've been using mods in Skyrim for a long time but, for a variety of reasons, I've never sat down and learned how to MAKE mods of any kind.

Today I came across a NPC replacer that I think is totally wrong for the character it replaces but would really like to use for my character. Is there any way to get the Racemenu or ECE settings for the NPC or maybe export the mesh as a preset for a custom race or something along those lines? Or would I need to pester the author for a playable version of the character?

Also, if I were doing something like that for my own personal use would etiquette demand that I get permission from the author even if I weren't planning to distribute it?

Edit: Nah, you're after an NPC. That's easier than the player's face. Do this:

Load up the replacer in the CK.

Open a Preset (Like ArgonianFemalePreset05) of the race and gender of the NPC you like.

In Actor Base, choose the NPC you like, tick Use Traits, save the preset NPC.

In the game, if you open the race menu, in the presets of the race and gender of the NPC, you should find the face you're after.

Careful with changing race mid-game though! You should start a new game rather than do this!

For private use, you don't need permission (on the contrary, etiquette demands that you don't bother them with your private stuff  )

Be aware though that your mod might still need some files the old mod came with. Uncheck the original .esp of the replacer, but don't deinstall the files it might have come with.
