MCrex007
So in Blender and 3DS Max, the sight and body of a weapon appear to be just one item, but in nifskope they appear as two seperate NiTriStrips. Is there any way to combine their meshes into one? What is it using to determine that they're meant to be seperate?
EPDGaffney
I've never really had this problem but my guess is that the materials are not exactly identical. I see part of the mesh that looks much brighter than the other part, and my guess is that even if the texture files are the same, the textures are applied to two different materials with slightly different settings, or maybe one of them doesn't even have the normal map the other one has. I thought that it wouldn't even export with two different materials on one object, but I could be wrong; maybe it just separates them.
Deleted1205226User
The separate NiTriStrips can be set this way because of the animation requirement. (some part animated, other not) It is possible to merge two NiTriStrips inside NifSkope under limited condition.Unless you intend to turn the weapon as static, I wouldn't recommend to do that for a weapon. EPDGaffney
OP is saying that these are one object in Blender. Is it possible for the exporter to separate that object into two on its own because of an animation? As far as I know, it isn't possible to rig only part of an object, but I've never tried, either. OP, are you absolutely certain this is one object? Not one group or something?
Deleted1205226User
If two NiTriStrips are under one NiNode, depending on the import settings, it will appear as one object in Blender (Don't know about Max)
EPDGaffney
Wow, I had no idea.
madmongo
That screen shot doesn't look like a typical weapon. Usually a weapon will have a BSFadeNode root and not a NiNode root. As pixelhate said, since they are under one NiNode, Blender interprets them as one object. There's no flags field, no collision object, no sighting node, no trigger, etc., none of the stuff that you normally find in a weapon. It just looks like a static mesh and that's it. Is this an actual functional weapon? Nifs are designed to have multiple objects inside of them. That's kinda why nifs were invented in the first place. I can't think of any reason why you'd need to merge the TriSrips. Why do you think this needs to be done?
