Conflicts with GECK?

I tried opening the GECK today after a month of not using it. Long story short, I found out it doesn't like that I have ENB files in my New Vegas folder and gives me an application error (0xc000001d) unless I remove them. Not only that, but it crashes when I try to load an area of the map while having the Fallout Character Overhaul mod installed. I tried using the NTCore 4GB Patch on it, but that didn't seem to help.

I guess my question is: Is there a way to use the GECK without having to remove these, such as a patch or messing with configuration files?

Worst case scenario, I'll just uninstall FCO and make a notepad of the ENB files I need to remove, then put them back when I want to play.

This is the first I've heard of this with GECK. However, I assume you are running Win10 with the "Fall Creator's Update" (FCU aka "RedStone 3")? If so there have been several recent patches that broke a number of things, especially for older games and apps like FNV and NVSE. The application error (0xc000001d) is a pretty general "illegal instruction" error, which makes no sense for something that was working before unless it has become an "illegal instruction" as the result of a recent patch.

Please see the 'Issue: NVSE - fails to load after update KB4058043 to Win10 FCU (v1709)' entry in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide, where it talks about configuring for an application in the "Windows Defender Exploit Guard (WDEG)".

If you aren't running Win10, the older equivalents to WDEG are DEP and EMET.

You can try this tool to patch it instead ... http://download.cnet.com/CFF-Explorer/3000-2383_4-10431156.html

After installing this ... you just right click on the Geck.exe ... and select "Open with CFF explorer".

Then click the "File Header" on left side ... and then the "Click Here" right side.

Then check "App can handle > 2gb address space"

Click ok then close and save (overwrite file)

This tool works for the Geck , but it breaks the Game.exe in my experience.

I checked and apparently I do have this update. While I haven't had any problems with NVSE, the ENB has been very selective on when it wants to work. I've never tried using one before, so I don't know if this is a regular occurrence or not.
Anyway, I did mess around with Windows Defender Exploit Guard and followed the instructions for both New Vegas and the Geck, but it didn't seem to help.

I had it using 4GB already but tried this anyway. Sadly no luck.

Found this comment on Reddit from 2013:

If you installed an ENB or the pre-enb enhanced shader mod, put the D3D9.dll somewhere outside of the fallout folder whenever you want to run the GECK. The GECK tries to load all of the fallout .dll's when it starts, and though D3D9.dll is recognized, the GECK doesn't know what to do with it when it loads, so it crashes.

Make sure to put it back before you start your game, otherwise it will not load.

As this conforms to your experience, I would say that pins it down. The author of ENB doesn't have Win10, and has stated he has no intention of buying it. So I wouldn't expect the situation to change.

Well, I tried using a different ENB without the ENBinjector in the directory and it seems to work fine with the GECK now. FCO still doesn't want to cooperate though. I did find a similar issue, which makes note of a file called eyebrowm.nif that is replaced by FCO, however, the GECK still crashes with this file removed. I figured a crash would always occur anywhere a human NPC is present (since that's what the mod changes), but there were a couple interiors that had NPCs where that didn't happen, so I'm not sure where the conflict lies.

Although I think your problem is along the lines of what Dubious last mentioned.

I'm posting to clarify ... that if you had the 4gb patch still setting the address space ... and I think you would need to do more than just un-enable it ... to then installing and looking at the Geck.exe with this tool.

It would show it as already can handle larger than 2gb address space.

Therefore ... you would need to remove that patch setting the address size, and then use this tool , to get a benefit from using it.

FCO requires NVSE and "Old World Blues" DLC. Are you loading with both when you attempt to edit FCO in the GECK? Please see the 'Issue: How to get GECK to load with NVSE?' entry in the 'Solutions to "Garden of Eden Construction Kit" (G.E.C.K.) problems' section of the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide.

Whelp, I tried loading the New Vegas master, OWB and FCO at the same time. Lo and behold it works now. I never tried activating the FCO master in the GECK before because I wasn't trying to draw assets from it and didn't think it was required just to load the main game.
