Computer setups for modding

i'm trying to setup 2 pcs for modding and testing. i was thinking of running CK on one pc dedicated to modding. saving the esp or esm to a shared folder on the other pc dedicated to testing and playing. wanted to do this since my gaming rig barely able to run skyrim by itself so im always having to close CK and everything else before firing up the game. this would let me keep CK open on the dev pc all the time also. anyone have a setup like this?

In my opinion: Waste of money...i leave all programs open (NifSkope, CK, 3D Editor) and run Skyrim in window mode. You can't test CK or texture changes on the fly, needs a game restart.NifSkope changes take effect straight after you save it, so you can test it directly in the Skyrim window, just have to unequip/equip the weapon/armor.

Maybe a 2nd monitor for a better overview IF really needed, depends on your workflow but i can live with a 24" screen. My computer is already really old (2x2,4GhZ, only 2 GB memory) and it works...so instead of buying a 2nd computer that needs much more power i would upgrade the system - mostly memory.

not really necessary to have two PCS running and etc. Maybe just go dual screen?

He said his PC can't run the CK and Skyrim at the same time, two screens would be even worse.

It sounds like a good idea to me. I can definitely see myself using my notebook for mods and testing them on my gaming rig, if I ever get into modding complex enough to require much testing.

If you already have another PC, great idea. If you plan to buy a second one, that'd be a waste of money.

You have to close the game down anyway, before the CK will save the esp to the Data folder. It won't overwrite the the current esp that's getting used by the game.

Rather than getting another computer, get some more memory for your PC. Memory is really cheap nowdays. This will let you keep the CK open while playing Skyrim to test your mod.

Then make note of any changes that need to be done. Close Skyrim. Make adjustments in the CK ansd save. Start Skyrim again, etc.

My brother was considering a similar setup. He's got other things he likes to spend his money on so he uses my 'old' stuff. If it's what you gotta do to get it done in a reasonable time frame (loading up the CK multiple times suuuuucks no?). Sounds reasonable.
