Is it the mods or the game?

Is it just me or does the game seem to get very unstable once you get to a certain point in the story quests? I know Bethesda tries to blame everything on mods But I'm not buying it. I have started 5 new games since I bought it and it seems the games runs fine, mods or not, up to a certain point and then starts becoming unstable with unexpected crashes and glitches.

One of the things that I noticed, as I played 3 games with out any mods. I was curious as to what was going on?

At a certain point, with the Settlements, as you recycle authorized vanilla items to build you settlements, the game starts to go downhill fast. CTD - LOCKS and so on.

Again, this is Vanilla game, fresh start zero mods. One of the big areas is Outpost Z. That starts culling BIG TIME and other areas, Starlight - Sanctuary and so on ... start to clip and cull.

Bethesda obviously had NO CLUE what they were doing .... with Sim-City meets Fallout.

Plus I found, when you start to have Settlers ' move in ' this too starts to have issues with not being able to assign tasks and/or it takes 24 - 28 hours ( in game time ) for it to get assigned. If you are not sure IF it was assigned and try to do it " too many times " ... this too can cause issues ....

Bottom Line: Their attempt at Sim-City ruined the games stability because they really had NO CLUE what they were doing ...

Probably a bit of both. The base game and engine have plenty of issues that cause crashing. When created and installed well mods usually won't add to that, but there's never a 100% they're not the cause. I would suggest making a separate save with no mods and see if it still slows down or crashes when going through the same areas.

Did a save with no mods at all and the game still crashes when I try to load a game on the Yangtze seems to get worse and worse the closer to the missile I get. There is also a spot in Cambridge where you can't go without crashing. Basically the game is broken and Bethesda is selling a defective product they have refused to fix for three years. This used to be a common problem when game platforms first came out. Many games were marketed that could be played up to a certain point and couldn't be finished. I had thought we had gotten past that but evidently not.

By " ... Did a save with no mods ... " I'm not trying to be a P.I.T.A. here, but was that a clean save - restarting, or a save with the mods turned " OFF " only??

Try using the PhyOp mod to lighten the load on your GPU..it could help. It's basically a low res pack for the game and you can then overwrite whatever textures you want with other HD texture mods. Helps for me at least

I didn't start a new game with no mods. I know a new game will run just fine up to a certain point and then it gets unstable. I turned off all the mods, didn't remove them completely. I have a graphics card with 4 gigs of ram and the mother board has 16 gigs, so there shouldn't be an issue there. I did finally get the Yangtze done only to find out the tactical nukes it has won't take out the airship.

Beth has a habit of making games that are resource intensive, Morrowind was a nightmare. I have problems with a graphics card @ 8gigs, but I found if I save and reload when my fps drop below 30 it's good for awhile.
