jeedge
Hello All, First of all, I had a founders 1080 before and traded it away for an older laptop + my friend's 1060 so, at the time, I wasn't playing Skyrim SE yet and it was a Win Win. Now 8 months later, I really really miss my 1080. Current Rig:AMD FX 8350 CPU 16GB RAM (Old tech, DDR3)1060 GTX 6GB2 SSDs, 1 HDD - 1st SSD for Windows only, 2nd runs all the graphics intensive games (like Skyrim SE), HHD for data and simple games If you had my system and wanted to upgrade to increase performance of a heavily modded Skyrim SE, would you:(1) Go to the latest CPU platform - Maybe Ryzen or i7 latest gen, motherbd w/latest memory type, NVMe storage then just overclock the 1060 a bit *OR*(2) Keep the system as it is, and get a 1080Ti card? Either route would cost around the same total $ and I'm sort of leaning towards new system w/overclocked 1060. Would be great to here your opinions about this, especially from those that did one of both of the above scenarios.
JohnnynRoger
There's really nothing wrong with any of your components IMHO. I upgraded to an i5 6600k from an i7 860 a couple of years agoI also upgraded from a GTX 770 to a GTX 1070 shortly after that. The problem with upgrading a GPU (besides the Etherium inflation) is that you don't really need one IMO and in a year or two when you might actually need a new one, you'll be able to get a sub $400 card thats probably as good if not better. A CPU will probably be good for gaming at least 5 years.
jeedge
Thanks for the suggestions JR. I should've mentioned, at an appropriate time in the near future, I promised my common law wife that I'd build her a new PC since hers is over 10 years old (Core 2) at this point. I think you're right, I can keep my system - build her a new PC then throw my "old" 1060 into her PC and get myself a new 1080Ti. I could be very happy with the new 1070Ti but thinking I will eventually want to get a nice large 4K w/120hz refresh screen (coming out later this year I believe) so I'd want the best situation for that. Also keeping an eye out on an upcoming Samsung VR headset that is looking to provide INSANE pixel count in each 3.5" eye.. it'll be a true VR headset from them, not their slip-in-your-phone models. Sometimes the heart wants what it wants, and sensibilities be gone!
