Nitesurgeon
Hey all, So this is my first time playing Skyrim Special edition after years of Oldrim, and I wanted to share my experience. So far the game is up and running, looks and plays great. However, I am getting the annoying issue of random, inconsistent CTDs after at least 20 minutes of playing. Sometimes i can play for an hour or an hour and a half before I crash, but that's less common. I understand that even following all the rules, getting all the compatability patches, a modded skyrim is still likely to crash every now and then. Now 3 of my mods are actually oldrim mods that I have converted myself. They are Epic Music Overhaul, Immersive Weapons and Complete Crafting Overhaul remade. I doubt these are the culprits though because a) I used them in early testing without many other mods and didn't get any crashing, and b) these have been converted by many other users and the consensus is they work well. I have tried making my mod list as lean as I can, as in the mods i have are ones I can't really play without. But anyway, wanted to get you guy's input on my load order (sorted by LOOT) and see if any of you have suggestions. I use Nexus Mod Manager and Mator Smash. I used to use the merged + bashed patch, but upon doing research, Mator smash seems like a much better replacement. I still got crashes on merged + bashed anyway. jeedge
I don't know much about Mator Smash, never used it as I've just stuck to Wyre's. But I like coming across something I don't know about, prompts me to learn about it more. I also watched the author of Mator Smash's video and read his post. Now I'm thinking of ditching my bashed patch to try this out! Anyway... came across this user comment in Gamerpoet's video- thought about your mod list when I read this user's comment. Then the video author mentioned something about keeping some merged ESP active still. These are just ideas for you, I'm not even a Mator Smash noob, I'm a Mator Smash nobody yet. ;-) I've been using Mator Smash for over a year now, and it's a useful program for strategically defying the 'rule of one'. For example, it has allowed me to keep all of CACO's alch stats while simultaneously running a half dozen other potion texture mods that each provide their own pretty models for potion and liquor bottles. But in my experience it doesn't always forward all the records to the smash patch that it's supposed to. I have to maintain a 'smash fixes' esp to correct the handful of records that it ALWAYS fails to forward properly. For example, using precise custom settings, Smash will correctly forward hundreds of conflicted CELL lighting records from ELFX, but there's always about a dozen of those conflicted ELFX records that mysteriously don't make it to the smash patch that I have to correct manually in order to prevent them from being overwritten by mods lower in my load order. Nitesurgeon
Yeah actually one of the things I decided to try after making this post was to rebuild the mator smash patch, but forgoe merging plugins and just keep them all active this time. Been playing for 40+ minutes so far with no CTD, so fingers crossed the CTDs will maybe be less frequent now
