less CTDs maybe none

upgrading to 64bit did it for me. now i have zero crashes. i have 30+ mods installed. before i was running on 32bit, constant crashes. purple textures, missing textures. couldn't even use the DLC because it would crash the game. now everything works fine. who knew.

So, what you're saying is that you were running an x86 system, and Skyrim would constantly crash with various other bugs in-game (I for one can second the crashes, but not the textures). But then once you upgraded to an x64 system, Skyrim runs fine?

 

Well, that's an expensive fix if you ask me. A Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade x86/x64 costs $219.99 on the MS Store. But then, I'm already running Ultimate x86, so I'm fairly sure I'd have to buy the full version, which is $319.99.

However much I'd like to upgrade to an x64 system, dropping $300+ to fix a game sounds a little bit over the top, don't you think? TBH I'd much prefer to keep trying alternative fixes and tweaks until I can get my version playable. I'm happy, and partly jealous, of you for getting your game to work. I'm also regretful for choosing an x86 over an x64 when I had my system built. :sigh:

yes i have read this to on some specifical place, the windows 32 bits make more crash, and when they passing to 6a all is giong well, they have something in the 32 bit seem causing more problem, i think the last time i view this is on the help center on steem, but if i remember well i have make a post on it here in this section, but i don't remeber the name i have giving to this post, sorry, (my crazy brain send a message, they have no service to this number...)

I also know that 64 bits is better than 32 for playing games, I regret not upgrading it back in december, but it's not that bad, there are always solutions.

Because like Arbabender said, it's an expensive alternative/solution... we have to find alternatives for people who live on their own like me and/or have less money on the side because of school or whatever reason. :whistling:

Changing the ini file reduced the CTDs and eliminated the lag I was having, and by using the logging functionality I was able to determine what script was causing the last few CTDs. Having a game that doesn't crash every 30 minutes is nice.

My situation exactly. :)

I'm going to try these ini modifications and see if anything improves after lunch. I will update this later.

 

EDIT:

where does the report for the logging get generated?

Logs are stored in C:\Users\[your username]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Logs\Script\ for Windows 7.

 

UPDATE1: Well, it seemed to work somewhat. I know for a fact that I got a good half-hour of play in before I CTD'd once again. I'm going to set it so I get a log report next time I CTD and will research some more. So you could be very well onto something here.

 

UPDATE2: Same as before, I got somewhere close to half-an-hour of playtime, and then CTD'd on exiting a cave. I noticed however that my game seemed to run a lot smoother and feel a lot more stable with my ENB turned off. I turned it back on just before exiting the cave and then CTD'd. That could have something to do with it. Here's the log for anyone interested.

This is from a save game based upon 'A Poor Man'. Just for a different perspective on the game. There seems to be a lot of references in there to CR04BrutePreQuestScript, and I've seen that somewhere around here on the forums before. I can't remember what it's for, but considering this is the very start of this character I'm fairly sure I'm not up to that quest. It could also be SoS: Dungeons/Wilds. That's been a common problem apparently.
