Aimiii
I know this is a noob question, I have looked for the answer but have not found it. Very simply, I had decorated my old fallout 3 "home" with simple objects I would like to bring into fallout 4. Are the nif files compatible? If not, is there a way to convert them with virtually no experience in blender? Thanks for any assistance. (I am presently waiting to purchase a GPU so cannot test it out at this point, there's a GPU shortage and they have shot up in price. Soon, soon.) payl0ad
As far as I know they use different node types that Creation Engine can't work with directly. Edited January 23, 2018 by payl0ad
VIitS
Nope. You can import the mesh then export it with Fallout 4 settings*, but they won't have collision. If you wanted collision, you'd have to 1) make new collision using 3ds max 2013 and the official plugin 2) add collisions taken from existing meshes and added to yours using nifskope 3) use collision boxes in the CK to make static, rectangular collision. *Don't know what the Blender nif plugin looks like, if there is one**, but the 3ds max one lets you choose which game you want the mesh to be for (FO3/FNV/FO4/TES4/TES5). **If there isn't, you'd have to use either Nifskope or Outfit Studio as a middle-man to convert the nif to an obj, and vice-versa. jkruse05
Here's the basic steps without 3ds max. This will require the use and some knowledge of Bethesda Archive Extractor, Blender, Niskope, Outfit Studio, The Material Editor, an image editing program like GIMP (with .dds plugins), the CK/FO4Edit, and Fallout 4's file structure to complete. DO NOT RELEASE OR SHARE MESHES CONVERTED FROM ANOTHER GAME, THIS IS ONLY, AND WILL ONLY EVER BE FOR PERSONAL USE. 1. Extract Fallout 3 mesh from archive and open in Nifskope.2. Export from Nifskope as .obj.3. Import .obj to Blender.4. Make faces smooth and apply Edge-Split modifier. I like to set my angle between 45 and 60. Attempt to figure out where it's mirrored so you can avoid texture seams, but give up and leave them in when it doesn't work anyway.5. Export from Blender as .obj.6. Drop .obj in Outfit Studio, export as .nif.7. Open new .nif in Nifskope. Also open a similarly sized and shaped object from Fallout 4 in Nifskope.8. Use Nifskope to replace BSTrishape(mesh) of Fallout 4 .nif with the one from your semi-converted Fallout 3 .nif. This tutorial will help.9. Extract and possibly convert the Fallout 3 textures, make a material (.bgsm) and a specular (reflection) map if needed, put everything in the right file structure, and properly link it in the .nif10 . Use FO4Edit or the CK to get it in the game. 11. Repeat process for every model you want to convert. Edited January 24, 2018 by jkruse05
