Settlement builds

I've seen mostly sanctuary or starlight drive in builds (places with a lot of room). Others, however, are far harder to come by. The ones that are far harder to build like Hangman's alley, for example. I've managed to push the beds over 30, but to create 30 jobs in such a small amount of room.......... Just not enough room to use 'sim settlement' mod lots. Anyone got some builds to share for them?

Hangman's Alley Interior Apartments opens up multiple fully navmeshed apartment floors for interior building. Use it with NorthlandDiggers Resources and you can keep everyone employed.

If you stay vanilla, the only way to build up Hangman's is with massive verticality. I don't think that's optimal, because sooner or later you will run into sandboxing or pathing problems. I managed to do my build without blocking out the sunlight, and it capped out at 24 settlers including companions, and that's only with the help of interior apartments.

Concord Township is a bit tricky to get working but I currently have 10 houses , 12 shops and a large hotel. In total 54 beds and 25 settlers at the moment.

Not all of the houses are habitable in the mod so I have scrapped 2 of them and replaced them..

Hangman alley in vanilla is extremely tough.

It is doable however. The main problem with Hangman-vanilla is for some reason ... Bethesda developers did not nav-mesh the area to the east properly. This area is the only real area where you can construct a building to put sleeping bags in. You get the result of a bldg where enemies will spawn inside ... (yes ... really!), and all the settlers just mill around the western part of HA.

The game does properly assign the beds and stuff ... so ... from a playability point of view ... it is OK.

I now just use the Hangman Alley Interior Apartment MODS ... This thing works great! Plus, the MOD author fixed the Nav-mesh problem with this MOD.

You can also build up over the water in the Tunnel and Block of the other side .... makes for a good ' cover ' - ' shopping area ' and such.

I tried the 'expanded settlements' mod to get that border out further (for hangman for example), ironically, Most of the area can NOT be built on!! LOL!!!

And yes, you need mods to play fallout 4. There are only 6 shops. 2 docs probably wouldn't be bad. One scavenger station. that's about it. 'sim settlements' does allow more 'jobs/stores' but limited room makes it difficult to use. I know there are creative people out there, so i was hoping for a few ideas!!! lol!

Idea 1:

Make a level 1 shop near the edges of your settlement or in whatever the "low rent district" of it is. Put someone scruffy looking there, and decorate with scrap and rubbish. Make a level 3/4 shop of the same kind in the center of your settlement or in whatever the "high society" part of your settlement is. Put someone in clean, fancy clothes there (or a level 4 merchant), with the place decorated like a top-end store. Use a shop mod that allows use of other than the stock store for the fancy place, and give it a nice sign from one of various signage mods.

Now you've got two shops of the same type, but that are very different shops. It's like comparing an inner city pawn shop to a downtown megastore. They may both sell the same category of stuff, but they're very different stores.

Idea 2:

Use different signage to subdivide shop types. Put in two "bars", but give one a Pub sign and one a Grill or Restaurant sign, that kind of thing. Sure, mechanically they sell the same stuff, but thematically they're two different types of stores using the same vanilla category.

I usually have a Bar/Restaurant and a separate Drug Den with a Vault Tec soda fountain to help the mood.
