shoimifang
Simply put do the original Skyrim mods work on the Skyrim special Edition or do I need to go get the original Skyrim to use the Mods? The only reason i ask is mainly that the two games while being the same game have their mods separated. This makes me question whether the mods are compatible with Skyrim SE. I have found many many mods i would like to use in the Skyrim selection but have yet to be added to the Skyrim SE selection. If someone could answer this with certainly it would be great. Grimolfr
The short answer is that it depends on the mod. Some Oldrim mods work just fine in SSE. Some won't, but can be fairly easily converted. Some won't work without extensive manual rework. And some won't work simply because they're depending on other mods that won't work.
Gummiel
While many mods may seem to work as long as there is an esp file it might seem to work, but it need to at least be converted with the new CK from form 43 (oldrim format) to the new form 44 (SE format), or you will risk instability at some point. if there is a bsa, it flat out wont work, SE can't read the bsa's from oldrim, so those would need to be unpacked and then either use the loosefiles, but most likely you would want to repack them due to conflicts and load orders and all that. If there is any mods that are purely "loose files" (ie. *.dds, *.nif are the most used one), they would work find, but that is VERY VERY few ones that are like that. That said there are guides how to convert at least simply mods (armor/weapon mods, simple followers etc) relatively easy yourself (as long as its for personal use that is fine, ofc you should never upload it without permission from original author)
Algabar
For a complete list of everything relevant for conversions, see this excellent post by Arthmoor: https://afkmods.iguanadons.net/index.php?/topic/4633-skyrim-se-things-to-know-when-converting-standard-mods-to-sse/
Moksha8088
Texture mods will work for the most part. The rest will crash your game. SE has a good selection of mods and being newer, many of them (except for those ported by third parties) have not been abandoned. The uniqueness of Skyrim SE is its stability. Best not to add anything that changes that status.
