Dragoon21b
I don't think I'm crazy buuuuut....Should I have to reinstall F4SE every time I log into the game? This started a while ago (a couple of months maybe three) whenever I quit the game and log back in my F4SE is disabled. Not uninstalled just disabled, but if I reinstall it before I try and log in, It doesn't matter if I use the installer or do it manually, it and all my mods and the game are perfectly stable and work fine (so Yes I'm putting it in the right folder) until I quit the game again. There's no errors recorded in the F4SE logs or any record of when or why it was deactivated anywhere on the system unless it's buried in some sub-basement program or folder I don't know about. My rig is an Alienware 15R3:i5-6300HQ 1060 6GB (latest drivers)8GB RamWindows 10 home (latest updates) Since it's happening between when I quit and restart the game I'm pretty sure it's a windows 10 problem but just to make sure I have tried absolutely EVERYTHING I can think of short of completely wiping the hard drive and doing a clean install of Windows 10 to make it stop and at this point I'm not even sure that would work. Here's what I have tried: Run as Administrator Change settings for all users and run as administratorSorted add validated load order repeatedlyGone through Mods with a fine tooth comb looking for conflictsUninstalled and reinstalled all modsCompletely uninstalled and did a clean reinstall of Fallout 4Validated File integrityScanned all files for viruses and malwarePerformed a system restore to before this started happening (1.10.40 but just the system and not f4SE and the game runtime)Reinstalled Windows 10 (OEM system image not external copy)Created New Windows User accountTested online and offline (including local network)Tested with several different antivirus programs both on and offTested with Windows Defender on and offTested with Windows exploit protection on and offTested with EVERYTHING turned off Like I said if I reinstall it and resort my load order (which also ends up out of whack no matter what) it runs fine but this just can't be normal. Any ideas?
Ethreon
Are you actually running the game via the F4SE exe? I am confused by the "disabled" thing since F4SE doesn't get enabled or disabled, it gets installed and you run the game using it.
Dragoon21b
By "Disabled" I mean won't load/doesn't work. I'm kind of assuming that something is either turning it off (if that's possible) or blocking access to keep it from starting. I've tried running it from both the desktop shortcut and the .exe directly but it doesn't matter either way they won't work unless I have just reinstalled F4SE and then they work just fine...until I close the game again. ThoraldGM
My F4SE fails to load about 25% of the time. (Version not displayed when I go to game Settings menu.) It fails more if I don't turn AV off (which causes Cortana to complain in the Windows 10 action center sidebar). It also fails intermittently if anything triggers in the background (if NMM/Steam offers to update, etc). I start game with the F4SE button in NMM. I also ini block the black & white SPECIAL films from displaying in the pre-game. (Not sure if that is relevant to bug.) I hope you find out what's going on. Dragoon21b
I think I have solved the problem...or at least it hasn't returned. I wen't into properties > Security and changed the Permissions for f4se_loader.exe and gave it full access which it didn't have by default...stupidly simple solution and I should have thought of it sooner. Sanity Check: eliminate the easiest things first.
ThoraldGM
Thanks, I did the same. It could be my imagination, but I think disabling the Steam Overlay has also reduced number of load failures.
SirTwist
You run F4SE, in place of Fallout4.exe. It should always run, not enable/disable. It's not a mod, it's an executable.
ThoraldGM
I use the F4SE button in NMM. Sometimes the F4SE version number is displayed in settings when I start, sometimes it isn't. I assumed OP was experiencing the same thing. I agree it shouldn't be failing, but how else to explain the erratic behavior?
SirTwist
Every time I run F4SE, I get a command window, then the game opens. If this does not happen, then you need to check things. You don't need to install it every time you want to run the game. You just need to run it every time you run the game.
Jambo11
I was having the exact same problem. Eventually, I just got fed up and uninstalled F4SE, and all of the mods that require it. I might go back to it in my next playthrough. For now, I'm perfectly content without it.
