elarson1423
There's one aspect of Skyrim that has bugged me for a little bit, and that is the lack of enchanting services. You can find enchanted items, you can enchant items, but you can't pay to have someone trained in the art enchant an item for you. Previously, this was a minor inconvenience. If I wanted to enchant, I just worked on scaling up the enchanting ladder until I could do it myself. However, I have run into a problem with my current toon. For roleplaying reasons, I am not using ANY magic whatsoever. That leaves me out in the cold, scavenging around for equipment to fit my needs. This leads me to an idea for a mod: Skyrim Enchanting Services. The idea would be to have Enchanter NPC's in some of the larger holds, in the castle or their own shop, that can enchant an item for you, for a price. Off the top of my head, here are some thoughts as to how this would be integrated.Cost would be high: a mid level enchant (+10 shock damage for example) would cost ~5,000Enchanters in different holds would have differing enchanting abilities and available enchantsThe available scale of enchanting available could scale at 3x level, for example a level 20 toon could only receive a level 60 enchantEnchanters could have quests available to obtain their services, or to open more enchant options from themYou could give a magic item to an Enchanter in order for them to learn that enchant if they don't have itSome Enchanters could specialize in certain types of enchant, for example, one could specialize in fire, and could achieve a better result with a fire enchant than others, for a higher cost There still would be incentives for learning the enchanting tree, particularly the ability to dual enchant items, and creating more powerful items with potions. If there is already something out there like this, please let me know what it is, and then disregard this post.

elarson1423
Any other thoughts on this? Another good side to this is it would lure people away from the temptation to do the easy "enchant dagger, sell, rinse, repeat" in order to enchant their own items. CarlCorey
I'm glad I did a search for this before posting a new topic. I recently started a non-magic-crafting character as well and and had similar thoughts. The one thing I would add is that, in addition to the service being expensive, you would also need to supply the item and soul gem -- or at least purchase them separately before hand. MLeonhardt
I like the idea. Sort of like the Mages Guilds in Oblivion having specific colleges that they study, each hold would have enchanters with a specific college.I.e. Whiterun's Enchanter is a master of Restoration spells (I.e. Restoration Spells cost 10% less to cast, Restoration spells are 20% more powerful, or Magicka regenerates faster)Whereas Solitude's Enchanter is a master of destruction (Fire, Frost or Shock damage or resistances)

Dude69696969
This is a great idea. Also how about your toon being able to enchant items for NPC's? I have heard the guards say too many times "would you enchant my sword?" It could be a radial quest after finishing the mage line, or something. DeftRogue
This sounds great to me however I think the price of the enchantment should scale with the level of the enchantment like a level 40 enchant would cost 4,000 and a level 60 enchant would cost 6,
Righ211
I've had a similar thought. But wanted to do it for more than just enchanting. Do it for smithing, enchanting and alchemy. Some characters it just makes more sense to do it that way than make it yourself or roll the dice and hope you get what you want from a merchant. Was hoping I could find someone to help me work out the scripting stuff that would need to be done to make it work since I haven't had much luck with that part myself.
