My opinion of the show shell ot be mentioned her, do to possible flame war :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: :teehee: LOOOL

All good pagans of the Old North eat horse flesh, but ponies and bronies I find hard to swallow.

Historical poking aside, I don't understand the charm of a show made for 10 year old girls on grown men. Can someone actually explain this to me? And it has to be a lot better than "you wouldn't understand" or some kind of simple outsider/we-belong-to-this with no actual reasoning to it kind of thing.

I am all ears.

Well, heres what I understand of it. Unlike previous generations, the level of girliness is not going to make you bleed viciously. G3 and G3.5, as little as I've seen (clips) were possibly the most feminine thing I've ever seen, to the point ONLY 5 year old girls could like it and still be considered sane. With MLP:FiM, it's very pastel, but most of Faust's cartoons have been like that, but that's about it. It's not as girly as you'd expect.

I'm going on a tangent, though.

Men like it because:

1. The animation is good. A lot of the stuff in it is pretty hard to animate, like the walk cycles.

2. The humour is pretty good. It's actually humour, not lame puns watered down like you'd expect.

3. It has it's epic moments That would be harder to list. You'd have to actually have to see some episodes to see what I mean.

4. The story. Somehow, they found a way to put life lessons in a less corny way. Cliche, but not really corny.

5. The characters. They actually have personalities, unlike previous generations *coughGen3.5cough*. Two are even kind of tomboyish (Making one get pegged as a lesbian in the fandom due to a rainbow coloured mane.).

6. Nostalgia. Lauren Faust is known for several cartoons that a lot of people ended up liking, mostly for the same reasons.

7. The VAs. Some quite famous voice actors play the Mane 6, and many give a distinct flair to each character (This can be more pronounced when they sing).

8. It's part of a repressed desire to rebel against the gender stereotypes of society. Men have a repressed desire to like pastel (primarily pink) things considered girly, although the show can be quite gender-neutral at times. But inside, we men wish to embrace these things, due to the "Forbidden Fruit" concept (Essentially, people will be more drawn to the forbidden, usually out of a desire to rebel).

9. This is a stretch, but dragons. For some reason, lots of guys like dragons. This isn't a very obvious reason, but rather a subliminal reason (Face it, dragons are burned into our mind despite our location on earth).

10. It's entertaining. That's not common in cartoons these days.

Essentially, it's a big wad of things that bring us to our mental knees and just make us want to love and tolerate the crap out of everything around us. To me, it's made me a better person. Never in a million years would I guess a cartoon about ponies would make me better as a human being. So, yeah, I'm proud as hell to be a brony.

You're welcome. It's always confusing (to both genders) why grown men (A lot of teens as well) like MLP:FiM, but honestly, I really do see nothing wrong with it. It's mainly the stigma the name My Little Pony carries (Gen 1, 2, 3, and 3.5 were notorious for how much they sucked). Gen 2 was girly enough, but Gen 3 and 3.5 went so far, it made Strawberry Shortcake look like Fight Club.

But MLP:FiM is different. Lauren Faust said she was sick of every girls cartoon being some unrealistic plot, lame villain defeat by something corny like "The power of sharing", and pink bleeding out the fourth wall like Pepto-Bismol, and constant princesses and tea parties. She wanted a decent girls cartoon, one that didn't suck.

Lauren Faust, you did one hell of a good job!

anybody working on a My Little Pony mod for World of Tanks yet?

Eeyup.

A designated future FOTM winner

It actually surprises me that MLP mods usually end up as hot files, like my PipBoy background replacer. If it wasn't for Fallout Remastered that mod would've been a FOTM winner. But World Of Tanks is a new site so my mod might as well end up as a FOTM. And I still haven't finished my pony stuff for Skyrim .

and don't forget

I can, however, note that G2, G3/G3.5, and the nightmare known as Newborn Cuties, all sucked beyond the pale of what is acceptable.

G2 was basically 26 episodes of shipping random ponies that lived in some unnamed town. Worse, people had to pay for this on DVD.

G3 and G3.5 were nightmare fuel. The bright, obnoxious colors (especially neon pink EVERYWHERE), the fact each episode mentions the words rainbow or pink at least 50 times, Rainbow Dash says darling at least once every sentence. Plotless, stupid characters, bad animation, and those awful as hell singing numbers!

Newborn Cuties doesn't deserve the label professional animation. It's so bad, I could remake every episode using POWERPOINT. The characters were brain dead, the dialogue was garbage, the plot was nonexistant (It's too horrible... Once, two rainbows met and produced a baby unicorn from thin air), and the animation was the worst I've ever seen. When talking, the characters' bodies don't move (In fact, their bodies NEVER move), only their head bobbles up and down brainlessly, and their mouth either is open or CLOSED when they talk (Never is the mouth animated). It's the single worst cartoon I've ever pained myself to give a chance. Don't watch it, it's for your own good. They had FOUR animators and less than 20 people working on the ENTIRE show.

These three generations were so ABOMINABLE, I was hysterically laughing (even to the point of drooling from laughter) at how insane, gaudy, obnoxious, and horrible these gens were.

Which is why I'm amazed that people were willing to give MLP:FiM a chance. But, then again, it has realistic characters, reasonable problems and plot, and is just good overall.

Heck I was born watching my little ponies... So many ponies. I still have ALL my pony toys tucked away in boxes in my room right now, except Gusty cause Gusty is just that awesome. My family saying was "If you want to get *******(Nivea) a present, get her a MLP."

Then the 2-3 Generations hit and I died alittle inside...

Friendship is magic, there is just something about it that makes you want to take a moment and enjoy the animations. Then the next thing you know you got sucked into the show and found yourself saying, "Hey that was pretty good."

Now you wait see every new episode and put ponies in your signatures or icons, and cackle at pony web jokes.
