Axle_Gear
So I'm at wit's end here trying to make this work. I've tried a million google searches, and not a one has returned a result similar to the problem I have (all of it is whining about pixelated or flickering shadows). I see there's a slew of other shadow-problem threads here, and I'd hate to add to the stack, but I've got no other ideas. So, when I play Skyrim no shadows are actually cast from light sources of the sun in the game world. Instead, what happens is that the entire game world goes dim whenever the camera (or the character's head in third-person mode) enters a place where a shadow SHOULD be cast. I have no mods, I tried reinstalling, and I assume Steam is downloading all the latest patches for Skyrim. This can be especially frustrating when going under things that cast complex shadows, as it can result in the entire world flickering. I could solve this partially by editing the skyrimprefs.ini file to turn shadows off completely, but that mucks up a lot of the other lighting in the world, making some areas incredibly dark or impossibly bright. Is there anything that can be done with this problem of shadows not being cast but causing the entire world to go dark?
shotgun188
This happened to me randomly once. I immediately quit the game(before entering/leaving a worldspace/cell) and tried to see if there was a fix. Hours later after finding nothing, I just started the game and it was gone. Deleted3507349User
Here is the fix. Download the optional D3D9Gen and use it to generate a custom D3D9.dll then put it in your Skyrim directory. Problem solved.
