charwo
I'm wondering if there is a mod, or mod in progress that runs Boston, at least the Boston exteriors, into a New Vegas style city? Of all the things I've ever complained about in Fallout 4, it's the fact that Boston is warzone and not a fully functioning city like Vegas that makes me not want to play this game. So anything that removes all the enemeies from Boston, adds some generic NPCs, some city walls, a fully restored interior of the Old North Church. Even just having the Fens, the Commons and the Docks in the middle third of the city walled off and populated would make me very happy. So is anyone doing something like this? montky
hi Charwo.I am aware of a few different approaches.first and foremost are Worsin and a separate approach by BigandFlabby.FiftyTiffty was looking at maybe a cell-override route etc. A lot of people want Boston to be more advanced, to be 'pre-war'or to have more like "Vault-City" level of tech progress.if that were made available as a New Lands framework, that'd be great.that way, it would be standardized, and, could be throughputtable to different mod-configuration load orders etc.so, the 1 pre-war Boston would be in all the games,it could be referenced in the Memory Den Virtual Holodeck etc... if you're looking for just straight up deleting the down-town cells, blanking that, placing a "lenticular 2D-3D animated world-box decal applique surface" and a huge wall, with then, select "new lands" areasand making that Interoperable with the UnderBoston or other stuff like parts of Beantown etc, that'd be a little tricky. Some Fallout4VR folks are kindly donating the 360vid footage for the animated-decal-applique surfaces,so, that is coming along nicely.the main issue is - making the world-box/sphere, animation match to what is on the other side.naturally, this means, nothing being built above the outer wall height,to prevent the line-of-sight nX! mismatch of the world-sphere animation to what you can see. I've only dabble with making the CIT ruins into "The Bottle City of Pre-War Boston"- I put a massive "biodome" over the pre-war CIT, and made that an override of the cell,so as to not be irradiated.it's useable only after completing the main B.o.S. quest, just like the Good/Bad Institute and Enclave Returns mods..In my playthrough, there are only 3 places that are pre-war;1. the CIT 'dome"2. The Memory Den Virtual Holodeck,3. Flashbacks/pre-war sequence -----I would very much like to delete a lot of Boston though,as an option for 'low-end install interoperable' stuff.it's just sitting there empty for much of the game... I want to be able to make the mono-rail more of a game-feature,thanks to Cypher2012's EXCELLENT mods etc.I want it to be seamless to go from the exterior to interior settlement etc. I look forward to hearing more about this, and seeing what folks have come up with. charwo
OK Montk, I see your point of compatibility. If I had any modding skills, and I don't, and I want to be upfront about it, I'd put up a wall around two places: First, a spot in Cambridge possible for an new cell leading to Harvard Yard with a fully functioning school and quests and the ability to buy specific perks for high prices and significant downtime. You are going to school after all. The other, simpler thing to do is to wall off central Boston from the Fens to the to the Docks, to Handcock's Warehouse, leaving only South Boston, and moving the entire apartment where you recruit Strong to another cell in South Boston or Roxbury. You don't delete the cells inside the wall, and in fact you can get past the wall by jetpack and see Boston as Bethesda designed it, fight, have all the location, But all the entrances would lead to a unified mostly restored Boston where there are cleanish post-war cars, bucycles, motorcycles and thugs that wait to ambush you in dark alleys and stuff. There will be the people Pickman kills. There will be no Diamond City, all its NPCs will be scattered around the Fens, and all the shops will have clean tidy post-war stores and bars. Piper will have a small loft with the printing press on the ground floor and the quests will be ignored (like finding the missing guy who had his face cut off, because nothing of that quest makes sense) or retooled (if you can access Fenway Park, you'll just have to buy and mix the pain at a populated hardware store, but let's be frank, it's a huge waste of time.)The interiors that need to be rebuilt are just the Old North Church, along with a kindly pastor that tries to throw you off the Railroad's trail and you have to convince him to let you down in the basement, the Boston Library, the hardware store as the location of Boston Surplus, the Massetuechtes State House, which will be where the Mayor lives, and the police stations for Valentine's quest (which you need not fight but must con your way into the archives). Also Eddie Winter will be very charming and seemingly helpful Ghoul owner of the dougnut shop until you figure out where his hideout is, and then he truns sociopathic. The exterior buildings will mostly be cleaning up the city streets, populating the city with semi-well dressed NPCs, and repairing all the highways or removing the elevated highway and rail lines as circumstances dictate. The bridge jammed in the up position will have to be fixed and the tugboat there will have to be deleted or moved. Boston Self Defense forces should be at places of entry (the Big Dig exterior entrance, the bridges over the Charles) and be in a standoff with the Gunners, who have taken over parts of the city around Gunner's Plaza .And if you kill all the Gunners in Gunner's plaza, you'll see work crews repairing the plaza and moving equipment in for broadcasting. So the way I see it, the problem isn't you need to build a lot of quests, you just need something pretty to look at. And it would require new assets, but it could be done.
