micalov
Blender is free and this version from nexus has all the required supporting scripts/nifscripts etc to deal with nif files Beth games use, although for skyrim you need to do some ghetto nifskop work since it does not support it properly yet. kingchris20
A shot in the dark, but if you are a college student you can get 3Ds MAX student edition for free, you just have to go to their website and fill in the necessary data about where you go to school and stuff, I think 3Ds Max is much more user friendly If you're not a student then the guy above me is right, Blender v2.49b is the way to go Edited April 5, 2012 by kingchris20
EnaiSiaion
I'd go with Blender, because 3ds Max is overkill for this sort of thing and I heard the nif scripts for 3ds Max are bugged. That and you need to be a student and there is a 13 month limit on student versions so there goes your software after a while (unless you intend to convince Autodesk you really flunked 6 straight years...).
