Question about KCD mods

I was surprised to see that the game already have so many mods, I didn't think it was possible. The mods that restores cut content like skills for shield and halberds that you can equip as primary weapons got my attention.

But my question: Is it possible to restore the smithing/forge mechanic? I cringe everytime someone calls Henry a blackmismith even though he can't even forge a sword. It was the most stupid and unnecessary decision I've ever saw to cut the forge. Like, they kept the horse armor slots even though you can't buy any horse armor. God, I just hope they don't have the idea of shoving a horse armor DLC into the game...

Anyway, thanks.

I don't remember if it was some alpha build or beta, it was a long time ago, but there was an awesome smithing feature that let you forge swords much like you craft alchemy. I heard warhorse cut it because it was "too complex". They removed it from the game instead of fine tuning it... Dumbest decision I've ever saw regarding this game. I feel cheated for backing this game, it isn't what I was hoping it would be.

Based on the painfully buggy start KCD got off to--and particularly given the broken hotfix update as of yesterday--it appears WH may have bitten of way more than they can chew.

And if Varva's response to this interview is any indication, WH may be planning to prospone public release of any mod tools on indefinite hold, while pushing new content in form of DLC:

So a female protagonist centric DLC appears to be in the works. Great. I hope they pursue this AFTER they fix all the game breaking bugs/optimization so sorely lacking across the PC & console platforms first. Because THAT is the order of prioritization I'd expect from buying a $60 game. The moment WH decided to market and sell KCD for that price automatically but them in league as a AAA game title, with the big boys like Bethesda and Rockstar.

In a recent discussion about modding tools, Varva stated said things were uncertain. That WH needed to negotiate with Crytek and couldn't promise the fan base anything in the near future. Which completely undermined what set WH apart from established devs. This proactive transparency with the gaming community and willingness to listen to the fan base.

This recent quote came from Warhorse Kickstarter homepage:

We are developing our own proprietary RPG-MAKING TOOLS for easy development of this and any future content, including custom support for game design, animations, branching dialogue, clothing, definitions, etc. We plan to release these tools to the modding community"

So after addressing the chronic bugs/game optimization, I hope they intend to uphold this critical dev objective and address the modding potential of KCD next. It's what attracted a lot of gamers like myself to vesting in KCD. Becuase TBH, if they no longer plan to release a Skyrim-esque CK mod tool kit, they will have killed any replayability of the game. DLCs as the time jumping Assassin's Creed franchise has shown, tend to keep fans engaged for a limited time. Or at least until the next KCD title in another medieval historical setting comes out. Mods give franchises the gift of infinite shelf life as Skyrim and Fallout have proven to date.

So I'm concerned by recent interviews and development plans the devs have for KCD where modding is concerned in future. Because as of now, the KCD sandbox opportunities to RPG are extremely limited. If you begin a new game, you're locked into a repetitive and unnecessary tutorial

The game also strongly limits you to RP as an honorable, naive tank/melee knight character from the preamble in Skalitz. You have limited opportunities to play a polar opposite character, as the game is very inflexible in this regard. The MQ story line really discourages you from playing a shady rouge/thief character. Even if it's on a second play through, or a combination of warrior/thief modes (as I've been struggling to do on my first play through). So I really don't see players going for 4th to 5th play throughs given the game's epic Mafia 2 movie cut scenes. Particularly its Sims style loading screens for just about every damned thing. Simple conversations/interactions with NPCs become increasing painful with game progression. And that's on top of all the bugs/optimization issues currently being experienced.

If Varva decides mod tools are a no go, then KCD will be a deal breaker for me. I just blew another $60 drinking the poison Kool Aid for yet another "AAA" title which appears to be going the way of SC5/AC Unity/Fallout Seasons Pass infamy. The gaming industry is rife with empty dev promises. When will I ever learn.....

Trying to keep the faith: KCD is a breath of fresh air in RPG industry, thanks to its uniquely refreshing 1st person perspective and immersive realism. Well minus having to drink a magic potion gimmick (in a non magic world) in order to successfully Save/Sleep/heal and advance the game. But any failure to uphold their promise on modding means Warhorse stands to alienate a significant chunk of the KCD fan base.....

Well, actually, I gave up from KCD. It is nothing I thought it was going to be. It is too linear, the true and hardcore RPG elements are non existent aside from some skill to level up. It is as shallow as skyrim, but with an empty, lifeless world. in 1300/1400 wolfs and bears ruled the forests but in the game your travels through the map is boring as hell, nothing happens, you can't see any hostile animals in the game. So much for a "historically accurate" game, huh? What you do in the game doesn't shape the world around you, the quest have no consequences and judging by the amount of content they cut from the game, they are planing to do a lot of bullshit DLCs a la Fallout 4 workshops. They claim it is "realistic" but if you remove the 1st person view, you end up with a The Witcher 3 combat mechanics: Attack, block, parry, attack, dodge. The magic chest/potions and teleporting horses break all the immersion of this supposed "realistic" game.

I "finished" the game today and my God, what the hell was that? You don't even finish the main quest? Was it cut too to release it later as a DLC?

Already uninstalled.

Noooooo! I was promised modding tools. I like the foundations of the game, but there is so much complexity missing. This game goes from a 10/10 in my book to just above Skyrim. I am at least engaged enough to finish it. But this might actually force me to create a twitter account, so I can pester WHorse about release or at least updating us on the progress of Mod-Tools.

God, I hate the politics of game-developers. They always get in the way of creating fun and genre expanding games.
