Mounted Combat mod

Hey guys, I have a really good idea for mounted combat mod.

Basicly, you're on a horse, running into a pack of Bandits. You're a mage so you can't afford getting off the horse, 'coz they'll kill you first!

Sooo... You pull out that spell, and start casting. When you cast, your horse walks, it dosn't run. Also works with melee, bows, and wands.

I have seen this request - mounted combat over and over. The game engine does not support mounted combat. It will require massive amounts of programming by a master if it can be done at all. It's a case of not having the tools to make the tools needed to make the mod

IMHO, Horses are an afterthought in Skyrim. They were left out of Fallout: New Vegas completely (same basic game engine) And were really lame in Oblivion (but still much better than in Skyrim). It looks like in both Oblivion & Skyrim horses were not considered very important and just tacked on at the last minute.

For FONV horses would have seemed to be a natural, but Obsidian (Or Beth) just changed the lore to say they didn't survive the war. My guess is because they were just too hard to incorporate into the game engine.

Not to mention someone at Bethesda made mounted combat as well, which was featured in the Game Jam video.

To be honest, the game engine does NOT support mounted combat in a sense.

Try to fight in 3rd person mode and you will see. You can hit enemies, even when your weapon did NOT connect, as long as the guy is standing right in front of you.

Attempt to hit a chicken sitting on your feet is kinda funny. You swing in mid-air, and the chicken magically dies.

So, while mounted, you can hit anybody, even the horse you are riding  (which is most likely, as it is the closest actor in your swing's vicinity)

On top of that, mounted combat will be much more superior compared to other form of combat, and can break balance here and there. (Just like in mount & blade, horses are pretty much dominate the whole game)

A good mod will have to balance these issues, if not, well, people will get very upset, very very upset ;)

You're right man. But anyways, if such a mod and an upgraded engine could be available then I'd like the mounted combat to be something like in Darksiders (both I $ II have the same mounted combat style). While mounted in Darksiders I, War could raise his sword and swing it left n right while riding Ruin (his horse). In Darksiders II, Death could do the same while riding Despair but with a scythe. In both games the horsemen could use a normal 9mm gun for long ranged damage. The same can be applied in Skyrim with some slight modifications.

Mounted combat was added by Bethesda in a FREE update 1.6 way back in May. If you use steam it should have been added automatically. If you do not use steam shame on you,- does your mommy know you steal games?

Mounted combat is still somewhat buggy - but I expect it to improve with later updates.

Yes, but unless I'm being really thick, you still can't cast spells from horseback. More blatant Mage discrimination.

I imagine it's more like the fact that your horse is in the way. Fireball + back of horse's head = crispy mage

I actually play mages and I long for the ability to cast from horseback, but I'm just saying, it's not just because they don't like us. It's because we're more complex than the skullbashers :P
