blanksyndrome
Right, so here's the skinny. I've got a male two-handed Orc follower who is either having severe pathing issues or some manner of AI bug, as at times he won't engage enemies he has reasonable access to. By no means is this all the time, either; sometimes he appears to function perfectly normally, but other times he is less wont than my other comrade (a Dunmer mage) to leap into the fray. I can't quite figure it out. He doesn't flee or anything, just remains stationary with his weapon drawn, uttering hollow threats into the air. Also, if it's at all relevant, I can't dismiss him. Tried. He seems to comprehend the command, but continues trailing me like it had never been issued. He doesn't use any custom content and my other follower functions perfectly. I'm really bummed about this, so I'd be chuffed as chips if you lot could help me out.

Brandy1123
There is this thing in NPC's called Factions. If you're follower is Faction Friendly to the thing you are fighting, it will delay its attack and sometimes even run away for a brief few seconds. You can delete all faction association using the NPC editor. From your account, it sounds like it is bugged. Try to reset him. open consol click the NPC to get target ID showingtype "disable" --> he will disappear. do not target anything elsethen type "enable" --> he will appear near your location. See if he is any different. If t hat don't work, reset your follower count to zero. Has strange and seemingly random effects if you have a spouse set playerfollowercount to 0 <--- zero .. this will clear out followers from a non-modded follower game. It for all reasonable purposes will allow you to re-recruit a helper.
blanksyndrome
Hey, thanks for the response. I've double-checked the Factions tab and he doesn't have any that don't pertain directly to being a follower, so it can't be that. I thought that perhaps it had something to do with the fact that he doesn't have a bow, as vanilla followers tend to, so I gave him one and he is participating more, but it's still not exactly what I had in mind and made me consider the possibility that it is indeed a pathing issue of some sort, as I followed the rest of your instructions and, aside from partially remedying the dismissal issue, it hasn't altered his core behavior. He's no GOOD with a bow at all, so it's still proving a cumbersome issue. Thanks again for the suggestions, though. And yeah, before anyone brings it up, I've set his combat AI to a two-handed melee package. Edited April 11, 2012 by blanksyndrome
