pwijnands
Recently started over with a fresh install and fresh mods. Launched the game and everything's working fine. Until I noticed that one of my mods wasn't working. I installed the PerksPerLevelPoint mod using it's default settings and only got one perk point upon leveling up. Found out that I wasn't running the game through the F4SE executable. So I changed my desktop shortcut to run f4se_loader.exe. Problem is that it will crash everytime after a few seconds. I get the short DOS prompt window, then the screen goes to black, the intro music starts playing and "Press any key to continue" appears on the bottom of the screen. Then it simply crashes to desktop without giving any error messages. Did some searching around and tried the following to get it to work:1 Launch the game with F4SE without any mods. I altered the plugins.txt file by removing the * in front of each mod. NMM shows all of my mods as being disabled.2 Launch the game without any F4SE plugins. Copied the files from the plugins folder somewhere else, then deleted the original. The only files that were in it are some slider stuff for BodySlide (in a subfolder), achievements.dll, place.dll, place_example.ini, place_ini_help, pppl.dll, pppl_example.ini. Both methods result in the exact same outcome. Pasted the load order for my mods below. Not sure if it matters since running the game without mods still causes the exact same crash when using F4SE. # This file is used by the game to keep track of your downloaded content. # Please do not modify this file. *SettlementKeywords.esm *ArmorKeywords.esm *ConcealedArmor.esm *Homemaker.esm *SpringCleaning.esm *Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch.esp Scrap Everything - Ultimate Edition.esp *Armorsmith Extended.esp *Armorsmith All DLCs Patch.esp *AdvBubbleTurretSet.esp *HidePipboy.esp *keyNuker.esp *DarkerNights.esp *DarkerNightsDetection.esp *EasyHacking.esp *EasyLockpicking.esp *CBBE.esp *AlternateSettlements.esp *BetterSettlers.esp *BetterSettlersCleanFacePack.esp *BetterSettlersMostlyFemale.esp *BetterSettlersNoLollygagging.esp *BrighterSettlementLights.esp *CarryWeight1000.esp *CarryWeight200Strength.esp *Companion Infinite Ammo.esp *ConcealedArmor.esp *CraftableAmmo.esp *CraftableAmmo_plus.esp *TurretStands.esp *1.5xEnemyDamage.esp *2xPlayerDamage.esp *CriticalHitsOutsideofVATS.esp *CROSS_Jetpack.esp *Eli_Armour_Compendium.esp *EAMR.esp *Faster Terminal Displays (20x).esp *Fr4nssonsLightTweaks.esp *FunctionalDisplays-Collectibles.esp *FunctionalDisplays.esp *FunctionalDisplays-AID-Vanilla.esp *FunctionalDisplays-MISC-Vanilla.esp *FunctionalDisplays-Patch-DLC-ALL.esp *Homemaker - Streetlights Use Passive Power.esp *DD_Khassar_De_Templari_Increased_build.esp *Journey.esp *LegendaryRarity5.esp *LegendaryAllDifficulties2.5x.esp *LegendaryModification.esp *LegendaryModification2LM.esp *LegendaryModification2LMConcealed.esp *LegendaryModificationMisc.esp *LegendaryModificationCSA.esp *LegendaryModificationGroknak.esp *LongerPowerLines3x.esp *NoNegativeAffinity.esp *NoAffinityCooldown.esp *OCDecorator.esp *OCDispenser.esp *OCDecoratorDLC.esp *AzarPonytailHairstyles.esp *Power Conduits and Pylons - Increased Radius x3.esp *Quieter Settlements - Vanilla.esp *Quieter Settlements - Wasteland Workshop.esp *Quieter Settlements - Contraptions.esp *dD-Realistic Ragdoll Force.esp *SatelliteWorldMap.esp *SettlementAttacksBeyond.esp *SkjAlert_All_DLC.esp *SC_ExpandedScrapList.esp *StartMeUp.esp *Quick Save.esp *TrueGrass.esp *VATST_Combat_VT_25.esp *VATST_CritHitBar_1_5.esp *VATST_Distance_10000.esp *U_VATS_HitChance_95.esp *VATST_Targeting_ReallySlow.esp *WoodenPrefabsExtended.esp
WastelandAssassin
have you tried running the game's original launcher , with no mods running? does it work?also , from what I understand , you aren't running your game with the F4SE launcher through NMMyou need to launch the game through your mod manager for it all to work properly if the game doesn't work properly when you launch it normally , do a fresh installation of the game and try againafter it works , try launching the game through F4SE , with no mods active . if it doesn't work , maybe you haven't installed it properly . try moving the script extender folder away from your game's folder , and install F4SE again (moving that folder is for making sure that no other script extender plugins are there , and only F4SE is loading)
Greslin
The first thing that crossed my mind here was, he's using an outdated F4SE. F4SE has undergone a lot of changes in the last year, and every new FO4 update has required a new F4SE release. So before you get any farther into the weeds, go make absolutely sure that your FO4 build is at 1.10.64 and your F4SE is the 0.6.5 runtime. If there's a mismatch there you're likely to have problems. Then check to make absolutely sure that any .dll plugin-based mods (Data/F4SE/Plugins) that you're using with F4SE are updated for 0.6.5, and that you're using the most recent versions. They need to be compiled for that specific version, or else they won't work. So double check and make sure it's all up to date. If you're absolutely, positively, super duper sure that this isn't the problem, and you're still instacrashing when you load f4se_loader.exe, then you're getting closer to having to do a full reinstall due to some weird esoteric issue. But my guess is you have something outdated in the mix.

Guest deleted40673460
Having the same issue with the latest version of the game as for now (1.10.163). I did full reinstall of the game and I have latest compatible version of F4SE (0.6.20), every F4SE-dependent mod I have is updated to its respective latest version. I can play the game just fine if I launch it through the Vortex or it's original executable, but when I launch it through F4SE launcher and load my savegame it crashes after 1 or 2 seconds. StormWolf01
Hi Alex. I've only got one idea on this at the moment. Check your load order to make sure that all of your f4se mods are listed as active in your load order before starting the game. You may also need to post what f4se mods your playing, so that we can see if we recognize any of them that have problems. Good luck :)
Wolfensteiner
I'm having a similar issue. I have made sure everything is up to date. I can launch and play just fine, but anything to do with VATS, crashes it. If I launch through the FO4 launcher it plays just fine. but F4SE + VATS = Crash to Desktop for me. StormWolf01
Heyas Wolfensteiner! I remember another user that was having that same problem. Tho they never posted back on whether they got it fixed or not. Or if they did get it fixed, what it was that fixed it. Are you running f4se straight through it's own .exe file, or are you running it through a modmanager? What modmanager are you using? Can you give us a list of the f4se mods that you're using? Are you running the version compatibility bypass? https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42497 This you REALLY need to have since the November 2019 game update. shaggy08251993
It's not just about having the most up-to-date versions of F4SE and FO4.exe. You first need to know what version your game is at, and then make sure that the version of F4SE you have was made for that version of the game. You can download different versions of F4SE as needed if you go to the mod page. This is the first thing that will cause crashes. The second thing, is to make sure that the mod you're using is updated. If the game updates, and the .dll or script from a mod isn't compatible after the update, that will also cause crashing.Your best bet is to add or remove one script mod at a time until you find the culprit. Edit: Take it from someone who uses an older version of both, and has a flawlessly running game with 240 mods. :} Edited March 6, 2020 by shaggy08251993
