Attaching a wire to a recruitment beacon...why am I having so much trouble?

Hey guys and dolls,

 

I'm not sure if or where I should put this but I am at my wits end. I just want to attach a wire from a small generator

to the recruitment beacon I have set up in the Starlight Drive-in's parking lot. I've watched a ton of videos on this, and

tried for...oh about 2 hours to get this to work! Its sooo frustrating that I am thinking of just stopping and going back to

Skyrim.

 

Anyway, I have my small generator about 5 feet from the generator. (I am using a PC by the way) So, I go into 'Workshop'

mode, and highlight the generator. It gives me the option to 'attach a wire' by pressing Spacebar. No problem, but when I

try to attach it to the beacon I cant seem to highlight the beacon. The wire is red and goes right through the beacon. WTF??

 

Every video I've seen shows the wire getting extended from the generator, the character moves to face the beacon, it

highlights and then the wire is attached (assuming by pressing the Spacebar again). Whenever I try to do this, I can turn

but I cant move when in 'Workshop' mode, and I cant highlight the beacon to attach it (I do see the 'attach the wire' selection

but it is greyed out.)

 

Also, I have 600+ hot plates in the workshop for the copper.

 

Am I in the wrong mode? I really dont know whats going wrong!

If you can't move in workshop mode, that is an even more serious problem than not being able to wire up a beacon. Any mods? What platform are you playing on?

I have to ask but I think I know you answer, have you remapped the controls to use the the arrow keys for movement? I assume you have.

 

Beth hates southpaws or thatâs what I believe. Using the arrow keys for movement will break movement in workshop mod because the workshop menu navigation is mapped to them.

 

You can use F4SE to create a custom control map that will get around this issue.

Thanks for the response. Yah, I remapped to my arrow keys for movement. It has pretty much been the first thing I do in any game. As you mentioned, I am a southpaw. 8) I'll try that...thanks again.

Happy to help, I had the same issue, I also set the arrow keys for movement, I couldn’t get into Skyrim because of the shoddy keybinding but Skyrim is not Fallout so for me it was easy to shelf and go back to FNV.

 

That being said if you have any questions about setting up a custom F4SE keybinding feel free to ask. You can also edit the Interface.swf files if it bugs you that the on screen key prompts don’t match your bindings but we can get into that another time if your interested.

you can use X key to toggle always move. This will allow you to move around in workshop mode, then use the mouse to turn.

Attach the All-in-One to the radio beacon tower. Next, hit the space key and run a wire up to the top of the beacon. It will now work.
