shotgun188
When I played Oblivion, I was obsessed with it. I loved pretty much everything in the game and it was choking with mods(so if I ever got bored of Cyrodiil, I could pop down the Elsweyr. If I wanted to play as the Blackwood Company, I could just download the mod for that and so on). I've been playing Skyrim for a while now and the ugly landscapes are really starting to bug me. Also, in Skyrim, different ground textures seem to be clashing a lot and it looks horrible. I don't remember this in Oblivion. Because of this, I've been thinking about re-playing Oblivion but I'm worried I'll find it hard to re-adjust to the much worse gameplay(I enjoyed it when I played Oblivion but in comparison to Skyrim's gameplay, it's kind of bad. I guess didn't really know what I was missing back then). I have also forgotten a lot of the old procedures with Wrye Bash and the other modding utilities that don't exist in Skyrim so I might break my game 50 times when I start flooding the game with mods(which I always do). So, should I re-play Oblivion or should I just wait for a Skyrim mod that adds a province with beautiful landscapes?
scrivener07
To answer your question, yes. Reinstall TesIV and mod the heck out of it. Do what makes you happy. Ive been getting the itch too. Post a proposed list of mods you want to use and Ill try to point out the procedure and common pitfalls.
shotgun188
I'm not sure if I'll be able to handle the big leap back to inferior gameplay though. I could never play Morrowind because of how clunky it was compared to Oblivion and I'm thinking the same might happen this time.
scrivener07
Oblivion is showing its age but its very far from an eye sore. Ive avoided Morrowind since fnv came out because that tes3 IS an eye sore.
Balakirev
As Scriviner pointed out, post the kind of mods you want, and others will help. There's ton of gameplay-adding content out there for Oblivion. Skyrim's got a way to go before anything comparable in quantity (and arguably, quality) appears. thestoryteller01
I am replaying Oblivion now for the 3-4th time (depending if TCs count) and this is the first time I am playing with Better Cities and Unique Landscapes. If you haven't used these 2 so far, this alone is worth it, because they make the game look far from shabby ;) I've played the Vanialla Campaign and all Guild trees but mods like Nehrim, The Lost Spires, Windfall, Dibella's Watch, The Ayelid Steps, Spirits Edge, Kragenirs Death Quest, Artifacts of the Ancestors (just to name a few!). make it worth starting all over again. If you have played the DB tree to the end and still have a savegame, there are a few great mods for that too. Mercbird
I dont know, I found Oblivion's landscape a bit standard euro fantasy after the alien beauty of Morrowind, apart from the oblivion planes. And even if the tundra around Whiterun can be a bit boring brown, I like the starkness of Skyrim and find the views breathtaking in most places. I did see a mod that brightens up the colours in Skyrim, and I dont have the texture problems you refer to. I almost never took screenshots in Oblivion, and have become a shutter bug in Skyrim. But then I also like winter On the whole, I'd say no, play something else first and then go back to Oblivion, then you wont have a direct comparison on gameplay mechanics. And modding the hell out of it wont be hard if you've done it once :D
macole
If you are afraid of being disappointed going back to Oblivion then this is what I would do . Step all the way back to Daggerfall. Play it for a couple of days and then go back to Oblivion. It'll be love all over again. pure heaven.
