KawaiiSpider
I'm a bit confused about this. Is it possible to edit and create item meshes/textures in the creation kit? Or do I have to use nifskope or some other program? I've been trying to use nifskope for the moment, though textures don't seem to load and I can't figure out how to edit meshes. ghosu
In the CK: Not really, you can only link your textures to meshes and add these meshes to the game...change stats, values, enchantments and such things, no creation of new models/textures. NifSkope is used to edit NIF files, NIF files as a Skyrim format are containers that contain meshes...you have to create these models yourself using 3D software like Blender, 3DsMax,C4D,Maya whatever. Import them into a NIF using NifSkope and setting up the texture paths, textures are made with software like zBrush, Mudbox, Photoshop and Gimp. After that you import the NIF into the game using the creation kit - quite a few things to do ;) Edited April 12, 2012 by ghosu
majistik
I agree and i will simplify it for you. modelling is creting\changing a 3D object. Texturing is applying a 2D image on this 3D object(which has no color) surface. This is how 3D stuff is made. 1.So basicly you model a mesh (with software like 3ds-max \ blender \ maya)2.You create a texture in software like photoshop and apply it in 3ds-max \ blender \ maya Those steps are for skyrim only: 3.You export the mesh to NIF file in 3ds-max \ blender \ maya with a NIF plugin3.You export the Texture to DDS file in photoshop \ gimp with a DDS plugin5.You import the NIF file to nifskope to add parameters for skyrim (for example a weapon - how will it look like in the inventory angle-wise) and tell it what DDS file to use6.you use the NIF finished file in the CK I STRONGLY RECOMMEND VIDEO TUTORIALS ON YOUTUBE! KawaiiSpider
I'll try out blender, then. Hopefully I can get this working and start making mods. Edited April 13, 2012 by LaKitty
