dual wielding skill

i was going to email leia (who made the "Dual Wield Mod") about this, but since i couldn't fund his email i thought i'd post it here..

i just wrote a script that changes the way skills are used when using a "weapon" in your off hand. since all the mods i've seen just use a shield with a weapon model, they all still rely on your block skill even though you're supposedly using a katana or whatever, which i thought kind of sucked.

with my script attached the blocking weapon takes advantage of the skill of the correct weapon type (e.g. long blade) and even helps slowly improve that skill. when the weapon is equipped it adds your weapon skill to your block skill, thus granting you a decent block percentage even if you have a low block skill. Skill levels earned in block while the weapon is equipped are evenly distributed between block and the weapon skill (rather than giving them all to the weapon skill to keep things balanced, after all, using a sword to block is somewhat different than using one to smack people around). When the weapon is unequipped it resets your block skill to normal and your character is the same as it always was.

basically i'm just wondering if anyone's interested in this and wants me to post the scripts.

..and just so nobody says i didn't tell them, there are three potential issues with the script that as far as i know are impossible to fix with the current scripting capabilities (but they're not big ones, and they're pretty easy to avoid)

1) leveling depends what skills you have as major and minor:

-if you have block as a major/minor skill and the weapon as a misc then you could potentially go up beyond the usual maximum level (oh no!)

-if you have the weapon skill as major/minor and block as misc then you might cut a few levels off the max (similar to the problem with vampire mods)

-if both skills are major or minor OR both skills are misc then there's no problem

2) if you increase your block skill by a spell or item effect or something (do such things exist?) while the weapon is equiped you might end up with an extra permanent skill point that you don't deserve

3) if you've earned over a certain points (say > 60) towards your next block skill level, then unequip the weapon you'll find that you now have enough points to go up the level (because lower levels take less points), this isn't a problem normally as when you reequip the weapon the skill points are back to normal, but if you equip some other shield and use that to earn the skill level (you'll just have to block with it once) then you lose all the extra points you'd earned for the higher level (which doesn't really cost anything but time)

(i hope that made sense.. skill level being different that character level, and points earned in skills being different than skill level)

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm hoping one day somebody can make a mod so that i can attack with both hands instead of one block etc and one attack:) Might not be possible with morrowind tho, i dunno ^_^

Script sounds as close as i think is possible in morrowind tho:) Hope you get it added :D
