Pre-Combines and Pre-Vis Data?

Recommended Posts

I understand what Pre-Vis and Pre-Combine data is and how they improve performance, but I'm unsure how they're actually implemented. Is it exterior cells only, or both exterior and interior cells? Is it a procedural process where it's generated on-the-fly, or is it done during the actual creation of the cell in the CK? If it's not procedural, do I need to generate this data myself after creating an interior? I imagine that Pre-Vis would not be an issue in interiors, but I'm unsure about Pre-Combines.

I'll start by saying you probably should read this thread, Fallout 4 Optimization and Performance system Expanded. It's a long thread with a lot of information so take your time. Feel free to join in and ask questions.

Now onto my reply,

Is it exterior cells only, or both exterior and interior cells?

It is used in both Exterior and interior cells, as far as i know every exterior cell uses it but, I don't think every interior does. (I could be wrong I haven't gone through them all.

Is it a procedural process where it's generated on-the-fly,

No it needs to be generated and not done on the fly.

do I need to generate this data myself after creating an interior?

Yes and No, not every cell needs this (In my opinion) If your making a large interior dungeon or interior settlement then your going to want to generate it. If your making small interiors with a few rooms then you can get away with not generating it.

I imagine that Pre-Vis would not be an issue in interiors, but I'm unsure about Pre-Combines.

Pre-Vis and Pre-Combined go hand and hand you'll need both. If you break Pre-Combined in a cell Pre-Vis is automatically disabled. For simplicity sake they are both two parts of the system and need each other.

Seriously you should read through the thread I linked.
