Malik Carr
Hello, boys and girls. So I finally took it upon myself to actually post here after reading all the good stuff for entirely too long. Yay. Anyhow. Relatively straightforward question today that's probably been answered once or twice before, but I'm lazy and not going to look for in the archives. ^_^ Okay. So I've just finished texturing (or rather, re-texturing) a set of armor, and it looks quite nice. -on an unrelated note, this is for my own personal use, so don't bother trying to assess whether it unbalances the game or not.- I've got my various bitmap files in file name arrangement similar to what I see in other suits, and now I'm wondering how and in what fashion to turn them into Morrowind's .dds texture files, and then how they are to appear in the Construction Set. See, that wasn't so epic now, was it? Anyway, that's it. Rabble! ...please? Blah.
Marxist ßastard
Some graphics editors, like Photoshop, support saving directly to DDS. If you don't have Photoshop, you could try out using The GIMP. I don't know if that application supports the format, but it's worth a download to find out. Malik Carr
Photoshop, eh? I found a .dds plugin file for it and tried it out; it looks to be working fine. Okay, second question. I've noticed that most pieces of armor are arranged in a specific pattern in their .dds files. Do I have to go along with this as well?
Peregrine
Are you retexturing an existing model, or are you making one yourself? If you're retexturing an existing one, then yes, since the mapping coordinates will still refer to the same pixels of the texture, no matter if they're empty or your texture. If you're making your own, then you can do whatever you want.
Malik Carr
I've made my current textures using the textures and intended layout of normal steel armor as a starting point. Currently, I'm going to have them replace the wierd-looking Adamantium armor that exists in the game for testing purposes, then go about finding better places to put it once I've assured myself it works. However, if it would be easier to do things by making something entirely new, I'm open to suggestions as how to go about doing that, though I'd prefer just to replace the funny-looking Adamantium for the time being. orochi_dp
If you're going to replace the pre-existing textures, just back the originals up and directly edit them, leaving them titled the way they are.
