dermoritz
i just tried to level my companion lydia by "resetting" their stats. i go her with level<10 i think. now i am level 34 an if i level lydia (dismissing, diabling, enabling) she has primary leveled light armor and archery - why. if i do the same with ilia it seem to "work" ilia will level what a warrior should level - heavy armor, block and one handed.i ask is this working as intended or a bug? worldofscotty
I think a persons fighting style determines their skills so you'd need to change that
dermoritz
I think a persons fighting style determines their skills so you'd need to change that my character is pure mage. and why should lydia level light armor - she wears heavy all the time!? if i would give her light armor she would never use it 'cause her default armor is better. so something must be wrong?! I mean her fighting style not yours. She is set a certain way in the CK and will improve on that regardless of what weapons you give her. If you use UFO you'll see that most of the the followers are set wrong Edited April 20, 2012 by worldofscotty
Rooker75
NPCs have a "class" (eg., 1handwarrior, 2handwarrior, sorcerer, battlemage, etc.) that determines their skill levels and determine which skills improve more during each level up. Each class has a RefID, which you can look up on http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Classes . In Lydia's case, it's 13176 (1handwarrior). If you open the console, click on her and type setclass 13176, it will level her stats properly without the need to dismiss/disable her. You'll need to do that every time you level up. Works for all followers, just make sure to use the correct Class RefID. Now that Beth is finished making sure to show us kill animations for random arrow shots and fireballs that we can't disable without a mod, I wish they'd fix this ridiculous bug so we don't have to monkey around in the console every time we level up. I hope I can ask this question without throwing the discussion off course and still get an answer... My question is, how do you know if Lydia needs to be leveled up? If I'm reading you right, this needs to happen right from the start and often. I first took on Lydia at about level 9. I am now at 22 and have never leveled her because I don't like to mess with the console. Is there some signs in here behaviour or skill set that indicate she is lagging and needs to step up? And finally do I understand that for Lydia specifically, the console command is setclass 13176? Nothing else and the same command whether today at my level 22 or somewhere down the road at level 30, say?
MacSuibhne
Rooker, See, I don't understand the sequence "open the console and click on her..." Do you mean that you need to be facing Lydia as if speaking to her, then open the console then click back on her image and then type the command? I'm a newb...I admit it. But I would appreciate some help with this 'cuz I like having Lydia around...but I've not used the console before at all.
BooneoftheWasteland
MacSuibne that is correct. When in Console Command click on Lydia, so in effect you would have to be in close range of her. When you click a person or object their refid will show in console then you can manipulate use commands.

None of this is mentioned in manual in the manual that comes with the game. I did find it on UESP wiki once I knew what to look for, but for a newlie, it's almost more complicated that trying to play Skyrim as a mage. Let me ask one more question...as mentioned above I teamed with Lydia at level 9 or so. I'm now at 22. If I level her up will she come up to level 22 as well? And be more effective in a fight? How will she benefit from leveling up? Again thank you for your time and generosity.
