Limiting FPS

Like it says on the tin. I want to limit my game's fps. I know, I know, "that's sacrilege! How dare you! PC master race! Blah, blah, blah." The fact of the matter is my fps shoots around like a yo-yo with my current setup ranging from 40-60, and it's not just an occasional thing it happens ever few seconds. This causes the game to be damn near unplayable as everything just looks laggy and messed up all the time. It even hurts my eyes to look at it sometimes for more than a few minutes. Anyway, I'd like to limit my fps to maybe 40, or perhaps even 30 as I've gotten quite accustomed to playing Skyrim on console again recently so that fps wouldn't feel too alien. Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated, and the simpler the method the better as I am using an ENB and some other graphical mods that I would hate to mess up by doing too much fiddling. Thanks in advance.

I remembered ENB having an FPS limiter as a part of it , and a quick google search suggests this is indeed the case

so I'll just quote from one of the results I found

The graphical enhancement mod ENBSeries can limit your FPS, if you set EnableFPSLimit=true
and your desired FPS in FPSLimit=61.0 under [LIMITER] in enblocal.ini

so this should allow you to do as you wish (as long as you keep the number under 61 , otherwise you may get wonky physics and other issues)

if your game suffers such a great deal though , maybe you should consider toning the game down a bit

if you use high graphical mods , maybe choose medium versions of them , or use lower graphical settings (if they are causing these issues)

the game should run smoothly without major issues , so you should really try to fix the issues , rather than go around them

Beside what WastelandAssassin said, I also setup Medium for both Shadows inside the game menu options ( icon on your desktop ). As soon as I did that, my fps remains fixed at 60 most of the time. When they drop is just within 50.

I also have lens flare = off, godrays = off and AAF = off and my resolution 2560x1440. I am using an ENB and I have not tweaked the FPS limiter in my ENB mod at all because just by doing the above, has fixed my fps.

You can also limit your FPS using Nvidia inspector assuming you have an Nvidia card

Your FPS shouldnt really be jumping around like that though. Iâd consider toning it down or making sure your load order is correct and youâve installed the mods correctly. If youâre using mods from Skyrim LE make sure youâve converted them properly

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I ended up using Nvidia inspector and it worked like a charm. I did try limiting shadows and whatnot, and it did seem to stabilize my fps a bit more, but I honestly prefer the look of the game with everything enabled and running at 40 fps. Just looks way too pretty now not to keep everything at max, lol.
