Which Morrowind?

So I just picked up the GotY edition published by mastertronic and presented by PC Gamer. Should I try playing the stock version or try one of the overhaul mods right now? I could run it on my newer PC that I'm running Skyrim on, but since it's an older game I'd kinda like to run it on my laptop. It's only got a Celeron 540 (1.86GHz, 1 MB L2, 533MHz FSB) with 2Gigs of Ram and a Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with 128MB-251MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory.

I'm fairly certain it'll run the stock game. Doubtful it will handle the upgraded game.

Thoughts?

You definitely won't run the Overhaul 2.0 on those specs, but a few things like better bodies and better heads will run fine. My laptop used to be worse than yours and it handled Morrowind pretty well with some small graphics mods like better bodies. Of course, you could install it on both PCs as well. You just would have to have the same gameplay affecting mods.

For example, you could possibly install it on both your laptop and the newer PC, install the Overhaul 2.0 on the new PC and just a couple graphics mods on the laptop. Any equipment mods or gameplay changing mods would need to be identical to share saves, but most graphics mods can be different. That way you can play mobile, then copy your save to your newer PC and play with better graphics, etc, and copy it back when you go mobile again.

Don't take my word for it; I've never tried that myself. I don't see why it wouldn't work though.

(Correct me if I'm wrong, people. I don't want to give bad advice!)

I'm not really sure what to do as far as an overhaul either... I keep hearing names thrown out... MGSE 2.0, Morrowind overhaul. Morrowind 2011. I think MGSE 2.0 is the base for a lot of them as far as graphics and sound.

This compilation looked good to me:

But it's hard to trust a 2 min teaser, particularly when I haven't played the game yet for comparison.

I also was looking at this one: http://morrowindoverhaul.rpgitalia.net/

But I gotta admit, reading the laundry list of bugs on the FAQ page is a turn off too.

Found this page too. The lack of responses in this thread makes me think these mods are overrated and people aren't playing this game much.

The mods are great but the game is old and thus not played as much as it used to be, also this site has never been the centre of things Morrowind related, the official forums and Planet Elder Scrolls are were players mostly are.

The game is indeed old but it is so much fun to play. I would surf around for mods using goodle (edit....um, google, hehe). As it says above, this site has never been Morrowind Central. I have some good mods from here but some good ones from other places also. Just look around.
