Hi guys, hope I`ll help most people with this problem:

The problem is in the file, that even clean install wont fix - its in C:\Users\-yourname-\AppData\Local\Skyrim

You need to modify your plugin list, plugins.ini

make sure there is only one Skyrim.esm and no Update.esm.

So your plugins.ini should look like:

=======

Skyrim.esm

plugins

=======

People already found out that problem is with the latest update, in one of the Dragon scripts.

That is temporary solution, but quite effective. Previous sugeestions failed to solve the problem, so I tried to dig more and found this solution. Hope Betheasda will fix it asap.

Please write if it helped.

Oddly just downloading the Creation Kit from Steam fixed this one for me

Thanks, your suggestion about the plugins.ini helped.

I checked my AppData folder, turns out I only had a plugins.txt.

I made a plugins.ini and copied the contents of the .txt into it.

I also noticed I had a double entry for Skyrim.esm, so I deleted one.

Seems to work fine now.

Cheers

Had the TXT version too, just removed the unnecessary parts and saved. Whats the difference between TXT and INI?

And I noticed that after installing new mods, i got the double skyrim.esm and update.esm again! hope i dont have to go into that file everytime i add a new mod...

Where I found these files (using Win XP) was in the C:\Documents And Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Skyrim\ dir.

I did not have a plugins.ini file, only a plugins.txt file. I removed only one thing from it, skyrim.esm was in there twice. I deleted one entry & saved it, left update.esm in there & everything else in there. And I saw my skyrim fire up for the first time since 9am this morning...

Thanks much for the tip. Not sure what caused this to happen.

I did fire up Nexus Mod Manager this morning when d/l'ing 2 mods & it updated to 0.17.1 is the only thing i've done just before it happened. Not sure if that's related or not.
