K so i have been doing some sketches recenty for some armours i want creating for my mod, I am still learning how to use maya/3dsmax and i am not good enough to create these armours. I have had nothing but bad luck with model makers atm, 2 friends said they couldnt do it, 1 chap said he could but he has to much on atm to be able to do them all and if i can get them to about 70% done he could finish and texture them for me and tonight i have had 2 outright refuse saying there to complicated for skyrim.

Im not sure why i have seen some amazing work on here that people have done that are far more complicated. Attached is 3 pics of the sketche sim talkin about, please be kind im no artist.

I don't see any reason why this can't be done ( At first i was wondering whether leaving bare body parts as specified was possible, But I've seen such things done on plenty of adult mods , so it probably can be done ). The 3rd picture should be easily achieved by re-modelling an existing NIF of any in-game Robe. However , creating custom armor ( And as a matter of fact , any other object ) in general is a very taxing work , and requires expertise on many fields ( You need to be a good Designer , you need to know how to professionally operate a modelling software , you need to texture it afterwards which requires painting skills , and lastly you need to successfully adjust your armor for compatibility and correct positioning ) so some Modders might not want to undertake such projects on themselves , especially not for someone else.

Hope my explanation was satisfactory.

No those are perfectly do able, all armors and items are. You just have to take into account the polly count, and issues you would have with rigging. For those armors you easily could make use of vanilla meshes and not have to make much of anything from scratch unless you wanted to.

Most modders will not offer help in making stuff, because well most of us are very busy with our own projects. D:

They are highly possible but if the straps are intended to be fairly thin you could use the textures to emulate the feel of more polys than you actually have. If you use any armor mods that you really like I would suggest asking the person who made them how many polys they try to stick to in their armor sets or look at the vanilla armors at a baseline for armors. They normally go minimalism on their polys and you should try to do the same whether you or somebody else makes it. A lot of what you see in the game on your armor has to do with the textures. When I used to dabble in 3D I made a shield with deep scratches just by using 2 textures and around 50 polys (but keep in mind that was a 3D movie test for a class and games probably handle the polys different).

One thing to keep in mind when it comes to your design is if you look at the vanilla jester outfit the way the armor falls is way different than how it's intended. Below the waist on the front (for females anyway) the armor juts to the side abnormally and it looks overall ugly thanks to that.

And from one armor mod hopeful to another...if you want to make armors in the future you should take the time to learn how to make your own armors now because you will be able to figure out in the future what designs are possible and you can get closer to what you want in less time as you progress.

Hehe heya jak, hows work on you rproject comming along?

@ 6domino6, nivea and vanyarelf i didnt think the armours were to comlicated either, they are fairly simple even the robed one is simple enough apart from the detail, the chain and the emblems. I know 3d modelers have atough time with demand and how difficult it is to create 3d armour but i am totally useless at it, i can manage to make weapons but clothing is so difficult .

Some of the people i have talked to have said the robe being tight fitting would clip with the animation badl, the ranger type (middle pic)and the first pic i do not think these are complicated at all there is nothing to them, i purposly tried to keep those 2 simple.

I know some really good tutorials on how to create armours, i may have to take some time to learn how to do it all. I may just learn some texturing and chop and change a few vanilla meshes and retex them.

cheers for your input guys

I do not see how the robes would clip that badly, it all comes down to how much time you want to take to rig the clothing. Doing some by hand weight painting can fix up those kind of problems if you take the time to do it, now its true not everything can be perfect with what we have to work with... but for that robe I do not see the issue.

The robe reminds me of the thalmor robe but if you try to repurpose some of the current models be careful with how it makes the polys work. There may be guides for blender or 3d that have suggestions on how to reduce Polys without breaking them.
