FO3 or FNV?

I am a fan of the original Fallout games(played them when they were new, not the re-releases.) as well as the Morrowind/Oblivion series. Fallout 3 was awesome awesomness +5, and FNV wasn't quite as awesome, but really really good nonetheless. I guess if some of the bugs got addressed that it would be a bit better, but that is for another tangent. I found that it was mainly a testing ground for newer concepts that didn't exist in FO3. I really liked many of the new systems installed and some that were obviously ported from Oblivion/Skyrim. Survival Cooking is basically a tangent of Alchemy and so-on. Unfortunately I have these games on the PS3 and not yet on my computer. I intend to fix that in the very very near future.

So, in summation my question is simple. For modding purposes should I get Fallout 3 or Fallout NV? Are there many functional feature ports between them (Fallout 3 with many or most NV features). I have a few ideas for some mods that may be easily inserted into either game, some that may be limited to the features of NV and some that would be stand-alone and really shouldn't matter. Like an expansion area instead of just slapping a new town down where one wasn't before.

I have been trying to look into buying the basic copy of NV and just downloading the expansions instead of getting the new ultimate edition that has recently come out. I don't care about getting special equipment, I do care about content. However, I can't seem to find the price of how much the individual expansions are. Well, those outside of the $3 and $5 range.

I am new to the forum itself and will be spending a lot of time researching what is out there, under development and so forth, so please bear with my ignorance on some subjects at this time. Please grant a noobie some patience, as I am asking nicely and will give you this bottle of purified water if you do this big and dangerous quest for me.

Both Fallout3 and Fallout New Vegas use the same game engine, so moding for either one would be the same. You can even switch mods between the games. Depending on where you live, both the Fallout 3 Game of the Year and Fallout New Vegas Ultimate are available for under $30.00. Both of these contain all the DLC's. I have no experience with Fallout New Vegas since you have to go to a third party to activate the game.

My advice would be to look at the various uploaded images and than decide to which enviroment you wish to add content.

I assume that you mean STEAM(ing pile of fecal matter) as to having to use a 3rd party system. I am aware of the popularity and use of it. However, having STEAM isn't all bad. I lost my house in a fire once, but had Half Life 2 that had just came out. A few months later I discovered that I could just re-download it as I had a profile claiming ownership to it. However, I agree with you when it comes to having to have an Internet connection to play your games, if only to do a verification load, and having big brother using information to track and advertise to you.

I'm sorry, but what is RCFW? I tried googling it and found a few radically different references.

I think he means RFCW, which stands for ' A Requiem for the Capital Wasteland '. Basically lets you access all the content of FO3 while playing FNV (http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/41480).

And apparently ( my personal knowledge on the matter is lacking, so I'm just acting as a parrot here ) the NVSE is far superior to FOSE, which is probably a pretty big factor when deciding which game you want to mod for. Lets you do more advanced stuff or something. :D
