Texture issues with Nifskope?

Hello fellow artists,

I am a trying my hand at making a weapons mod for skyrim. It has been a great learning experience and sometimes a struggle.

Though i am proficient with Maya, Zbrush and Photoshop, i have had to teach myself how to use 3ds max and mudbox during this endeavor. However, it is with Nifskope i think that my problem is occuring.

I have created the texture maps myself but i am using the default shineydull cubemap for evironmental reflections. In Maya, 3ds Max, and Mudbox my textures appear to be working. Even when loading all my texture maps into nifscope they appear correct. Its when i go to the creation kit, as well as in game that i can see that they are shiney but a very dark bluish color and there is no normal map information. i thought maybe my normal map was the problem, but it looks correct and I do have my specular map in the alpha of the normal as instructed by the tutorials i have been using.

I did some searching and discovered that this can happen when vertex coloring is set to yes. Well it seems the oposite for me. When vertex color is set to no is when i get the bluish texture, but when i try it turned on, my texture color is correct but i can tell that neither the spec or normal map are working in game.

Does anyone have any advice? I have tried a lot of tips from this site and others but i am not finding any solutions for my exact problem.

Thanks in advance.

NiTriShapeData's NUM UV SET (block detail window below) is set to 4097 and the BSLightningShaderProperties' EnvMap Strength is >0 ?

i did set the NUM UV SET to 4097, but i didnt either see or it didnt occur to me to mess with the EnvMap Strength. I will try that now, thanks for giving me hope!

Could be something else as well...if i remember right the normal map won't be displayed when the dds path is not in the same line as it is in the original nifs. Saved as DXT5 dds, right?

I did save it as DXT5 but the path may be a bit different, like texture\weapons\steel\longclaw_n.dds, as opposed to the default weapons\steel\steelsword_n.dds. Do i need to name the file the same? Thanks so much i have been stuck at this stage for about 3 days now trying to get these textures to work in game. You have given me lots to fiddle with.

and then i can do it again to get Ice and Needle in as well, Models and textures are done im just stalled at the technical side as always. :)

Nah i mean the lines in NifSkope's TextureSet when you open the BSLighningShaderProperites...i don't remember the order but i mean:

.dds

_n.dds

empty

empty

cubemap

_m.dds

And i would recommend to upload the whole thing, with plugin if possible or nif/textures alone if it is a replacer...easier to find the problem.
