New user, lots of headaches

Recently I started modding Skyrim VR since it was released on PC. I am new to vortex and so far have managed to set all of the settings in it according to the guides and installed quite a few mods so far.

I have tried searching reddit and googling these issues with zero success btw.

My recent problem is that when I opened it recently, two error messages appear now: 'failed to read fontconfig.txt' and 'skyrim interface.bsa is missing' None of my existing mods are showing any errors or conflicts themselves so I don't understand where those errors are coming from. Thanks

Skyrim lets you customize your fonts in menues and such. If you configure a font (in fontconfig.txt) that isn't installed, you may get an unusable menu.

Vortex tries to verify if the font you have configured is actually available, for that it reads your fontconfig.txt to see which font is configured and then it looks for loose-file fonts as well as skyrim - interface.bsa to see if the font exists.

Now the error messages you get indicate Vortex couldn't find the files. I can't tell you why, they are part of any valid skyrim install afaik so either your Skyrim install is broken or Vortex is looking in the wrong location for some reason.

However, if the game runs fine you could report these errors as feedback but otherwise ignore them, Vortex is just trying to give you an early warning about potential problems.

I ran into other issues personally.
Mods would download and be stored, but as soon as I enable them they give me an error about file deployment that doesn't allow the mods to work properly. As a matter of fact, no plugins are in the plugins tab when that message pops up and it does that every time.

Also, if I download several files in a row, the downloader makes me re-download them if they were left pending for a while.
Seems like you have to download and enable immediately if you don't want to run into issues. I think that needs fixing. Till these annoyances are in place, I'll stick to good ol' NMM.
