1h spears

It would be cool to see 1h spears mod created with animation. The animation could be something similar to the movie "300". To balance it out, spears would have better damage then swords, mace and axes but have more weight with more reach. The spears could also be created to make halberds so it can benefit from the decapitation perk.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is no way to add a whole new weapon category, with its very own animations. So, I could give you a one handed spear that swings like a sword, but the side effect would also be that when you sneak upon someone with it, you get to see yourself slit their throat with the pole :P

Thrown weapons, well, for a start I don't think in any Bethesda game you could have a weapon that acts like two different weapon categories, so you can either thrust with it or throw it. I wouldn't really miss it, though, as most historical weapons were strictly meant for one or the other use, not as both. Leonidas wouldn't have chucked his dory (early hoplite spear), because it was just too heavy and awfully balanced for throwing, as it was really meant as a strictly melee weapon. They did, however, chuck javelins at Thermopylae, a separate weapon designed from the ground up to be chucked for devastating effect. And of course, since we're talking a Roman Empire theme in Skyrim, those clearly had different spears for thrusting (e.g., republic era triarii or late empire legionaries) than the pilum, verutum, spiculum and the whole array of other thrown weapons. So I wouldn't sweat it too much if the spears for melee are separated from those for throwing.

That said, even that's a problem, since, see paragraph 1: there is no weapon category for that, and no animations for it.

But, tell you what, if you can find someone who knows how to make those animations, I can port you an authentic Roman pilum and verutum from my Fallout NV mod. The meshes are easy, and I already have them. It's those pesky animations that are the problem.

When Bethesda did their "Week of modding" after Skyrim was released, Spears was one of the things added. They also said their DLC will be "Shivering Isle sized" (read: expansion). With that said, it would not surprise me if spears were put in with the dlc.
