Help! I mucked up my meshes! aka Mod Fail (with photo)

Alright, so I'm having all kinds of glitches in a heavily modded game. Tried uninstalling one by one to see which was the culprit but I cannot figure it out.

It only affects NPCS, and not all of them. And my player character looks totally normal.

Here's some hilariously disastrous photos for you to see what I'm dealing with. Without further ado, I give you, the Freak Shows of Skyrim (see attachment):

1. Hair colours are off. 2. Head vs. body colours are off. 3. Children have creepy, ghost arms.

My hefty load order is below (and yes, I already use LOOT, FNIS, Merge Plugins, and TES5), it was working and then it suddenly wasn't. I didn't add mods, if anything all I did was remove some player homes armour mods.

I've never used CreationKit, so fixing things in there is a no go for me.

I do read the instructions of mods when I download them, but sometimes the author doesn't have the best English and/or there's no details about compatibility. So there's definitely a chance I have conflicts in this list (so tell me what to move or remove, please!):

typically purple means missing textures, start by reinstalling your hair mods, this should fix the purple hair. trick'a love the kids, I would load all mods into tes5edit. open skyrim esm and go to non player character tab and expand it, find 1 of the kids that no mother would love and click on them, see what all is overwriting the vanilla lovable kid, you should find problem there with kiddies. do the same thing with one of the grown ups that or currently whacked. Thats what i would do. hope that helps.

Loot is kinda crap, works good for informing you about dirty edits, not so great with load order, especially when you have 175+ mods. i dont think it has ever been accused of helping with textures. this link is a great read, scroll down to load order section for particular info.

Okay this was super helpful, thank you so much. I did find the solution with the kiddos being that RSChildren needs to be at the bottom of the load order - so I moved them and voila, they don't have the ghostly arms or potato heads anymore.

The adult NPCs will be tough but I'll try reloading my hair mods.

And AMEN on LOOT not being great for load order, like at all. The suggested load orders oftentimes don't even make sense to me at all, so no wonder. Definitely going to go in there manually and move stuff around as advised. I'll see if that helps the missing skin tones and what not.

This (below), from the link you posted, is all I needed to know. I'll hopefully have it up and running like normal again soon lol

#01: Your ESM Files;
#02: Bug-Fix type Mods;
#03: Game Structure and/or UI Mods:
#04: Character Appearance Mods (For NPCs and Self);
#05: Mods that Add and/or Change Items;
#06: Mods that Add and/or Change NPCs;
#07: Mods that Add and/or Change Locations;
#08: Mods that Add and/or Change Navmesh;
#09: Texture Mods;
#10: Environmental Mods (things like Climates of Tamriel, Sounds of Skyrim, etc.);
#12: Mods with Gameplay Changes; Then,
#13: Reproccers, AV, and Bashed Patches.

I'll miss punk rock Gjuk though...

that post by MissJennabee is amazingly helpful. with the grown ups, tes5edit is the way to go, load all mods and click on mod that is changing Karita, click non player character and click on karita and tes5edit will show all mods touching her, depending on how mods that touch her where installed having a mod load after her,that doesnt even change her looks, can give her paper sack face. but tes5edit will at least tell you what mods touch her.

TES5 is super helpful for sure, but can be tedious when you have a lot of mods like I do (so many to sift through). That said, thanks to it and a couple more YouTube tutorials about fixing grey face - I have figured out the culprits and removed them all. The game is running beautifully now!

Thank you so much for your help. The load order fix also seems to have helped resolve other smaller issues.

I need to be better at reading the fine print of some mods, especially when I use UNP and some of them are specifically for CBBE - so that warps things sometimes lol.

Thanks again!
